First time to go here. When I arrived, the lady at the front desk had an earbud in, and I had to repeat myself. Okay, so I asked if a stylist could look at my hair to see if it was in a good condition to be colored. She said no and that it's only a problem if you use bleach or get highlights. I found that answer to be short but decided to stay. When I was waiting for my hair color to finish, the stylist put a timer near me then began doing someone else's hair. That's fine, but when the timer went off, I had to search and find the stylist to ask her to remove my color. Then, someone else did. I told her I didn't want blow dry because of the heat, but I would've thought a towel dry and letting me sit there for 5 mins or at least asking if this was okay would be appropriate, instead of sending me to pay with sopping wet hair, dripping on my shirt. When I asked the attendant at the front if it's normal for a customer to have to search for a stylist to wash off color when the timer goes off, she said that yes it's normal and basically rolled her eyes at me. She said that leaving color on over the time is fine. I said, so why put a timer, to which she said bc it has to stay on at least 35 or 45 minutes. I said, oh well my timer was set for 30 minutes. No response. I did give a $10 tip because I'm not trashy and rude, but 10 minutes of work for $65 plus tip, given the whole experience, was a rip off. And they don't have the prices posted anywhere, so how can customers be sure that everyone is paying the same price? Sadly, I won't be back. I'm not hard to please and have never left a bad review of any place, but I found this to be out of line. It's equivalent to going to a restaurant and having to go on a scavenger hunt to find the waiter to...
Read moreThis is only my 2nd review EVER, but it's long overdue. I've been going to Art & Beauty for over 10 years every 2-3 weeks and learned that many others are also long term clients. Not everyone knows how to highlight and blow dry black curly coarse hair....not even those overpriced fancy salons. My hair turned out looking orange everytime until I went to see Harold. Out of location convenience, I've tried multiple Blow Dry Bars all over town (Galleria, Montrose, Rice Village, Uptown Park), but, again, they don't know how to blow dry my hair. It always ended up kind of puffy and would frizz by the end of the day. I finally learned my lesson and just make the 30 minute drive to Art & Beauty even for just a blow dry. I really think these other stylists are lazy or just don't know better because it's a technique issue. No matter who blow dries my hair at Art & Beauty, it always looks fantastic; the best part is it lasts an entire week! My go-to colorist at the salon is Lorena now that I don't highlight my hair, but I've had a blow dry from really everyone there (Harold, Lorena, Manuel, Arturo, Dao, Marta, and several others no longer at the salon). Besides loving how they make my hair look, I always have a great time catching up with...
