I went to this store last week on Friday, I had heard about it opening online & decided to go check it out. The store was pretty clean, it was well organized, it didn't have a foul odor, it had good assortment of all Asian snacks & food. It was pretty crowded, but it wasn't an issue to me. They did have a good variety of Asian hair care, toiletries, cooking accessories, cookware & skincare. They're a bit pricey but that's nothing out of ordinary in Asian markets & alao from being imported. The meat & seafood market was pretty clean. It didn't have any foul odors which is a good thing for me, everything was fresh & it was pretty quick getting attended. The store part was fine, it wasn't super exciting but it was fine & I did like it. The bakery area they have had a lot of baked goods that were sold out but they do have a good variety of baked goods including cakes. I didn't try anything from the bakery but I will another time.
I did however I did try the restaurant they have which is called grill city. It did have a long line, I couldn't stand in line because I had to register my name & number to be able to wait in line. After I did that I did go around the store to get some items that I needed. I did that for about more than 20 minutes till it was time to pay for my items. I didn't receive any text messages, you don't get any signal inside & your mobile data was pretty slow when you're inside. So I had to go to one of the employees inside to let them know I registered a while ago but received no text. They let me to wait in line which took over 20 minutes till I was able to order my food. They have a good variety of food on the menu including desserts. I order an all meat platter, turons, white white, pork belly with crackling, a drink & tapioca dessert that had mango, jackfruit & coconut milk. The meat platter was enough for 3-4 people, everything I got was enough for 3-4 people & that includes dessert. The food was phenomenal, everything tastes so well seasoned, fresh & out of this world (to me). The pork belly was so delicious, even the crackling part was able to stay crispy after a 25 minute drive home. It was juicy, fresh, no after taste in the meat, the crackling was hands down delicious. The dipping sauces for the meat was so darn good & complemented the meat wonderful. The turon was still crispy & warm, plus it's almost the size of a subway sandwich so that's even better & it's so addictive. Way better than the ones I've tried from the Viet hoa international supermarket in Houston. The food is pricey, I had spent up to 90$ dollars for everything but it was worth it. It all depends on the portions, the side dishes, the desserts & the sizes of sides & ECT. The drink was so good, it was a fruit punch drink with nato de coco & it was super refreshing. Was standing in line for over 15 minutes worth it? Yes, yes it was & I wasn't even mad that I didn't get a text. I'm not mad at the prices because it all tastes delicious & it's the best food I have ever had from a supermarket. They also do make fresh chicharron there so definitely check it out. Overall I am satisfied with G.C, I just wish they managed the registration better for you to actually get a text so you can get the opportunity to stand in line. Maybe the employee didn't hear me right, idk but all I know is that the food is bomb & hopefully next time...
Read moreFirst time here and probably last time. We came for the cafeteria style food which we enjoyed most of the items we ordered. Food review to follow, but first let me complain about the grocery portion of Seafood City… Things were pricey, but I guess with todays economy everything is trending that way. My complaint is actually with two items that were on sale…one which had the sale end date of June 20, which is today, but according to them it is no longer valid. However he did honor it, but I had to request it. He initially was saying that it’s the wrong price, it’s no longer valid and gave me a couple of excuses, blah blah blah, but in the end he gave the discount. The other item was stocked in the wrong place and therefore the price was incorrect. He couldn’t honor it without the approval Of the manager. Upon speaking to the manager, in a courteous way, she answers back with an upset tone and arm flailing saying “what do you want? We’re closing, if you don’t want it then leave it” if she didn’t answer me in that way I could have simply agreed to purchase it for whatever price it was but instead I decided to not give them anymore of my money. I rather support a Vietnamese owned establishment than support someone that would talk to me that way. It’ll probably come out cheaper buying it at viet hoa or Hong Kong.
Now into the food review
The bbq chicken and pork was delicious, the laing was good, the squid was good although I would have preferred if they stuffed it more. The buko juice didn’t taste so much like buko, maybe a bit watered down. The sago’t gulaman was a tad bit too sweet for my kids but I actually liked it. We ordered the mix platter which is actually a reasonable price except it didn’t come with rice….chicken skin chicharon was good, karaoke was also good. The taho tasted more like medium firm tofu or powdered tofu. It did not have the taste and texture of taho. The halo halo was premade so the ice is frozen instead of shaved. Would I be coming back?? Most likely not. So good luck if you so decide to go there and give them your hard...
