Sunrise of Summit — Local services in Summit

I am updating this review in a very major way. It turns out this place has a beautiful facility and nothing more. The people who are running it (except for the Assisted Living coordinator) aren't very good and really don't care much. Our experience was uniformly poor, from the administration to the regular staff to the nursing staff to the food to the billing department. We wound up having to move our parents to a different facility after seven months. The biggest issue is that in the memory care unit, they expect the patient to be docile and compliant. They are not particularly interested in making any extra effort to provide special assistance of any kind. My mother was admittedly a difficult case but they weren't good at all at figuring out ways to deal with it and they really didn't try much; they didn't seem to think it was their job to do that. We thought they were experts at this but they were shockingly lacking in expertise. There were certainly individual staff members who were pleasant and tried and cared, but their leadership wasn't much interested and wouldn't let them spend much time. The costs, which started out low, kept going up and up until they were 33% higher than when we started, including a very high annual increase. The monthly invoices were wrong every single month and it was always a struggle to sort them out. On the final bill they included some outrageously incorrect charges and then refused to take them off, just as a sort of kick in the pants on the way out the door. You should ignore any response they post to this message and figure it's a bunch of B.S.. which they excel at. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Just selected this place for my parents. Looked at about eight other places. Do yourself a favor and look here first. It checks all the boxes. Compares favorably in all respects against every other place I saw. Memory care unit is unbelievably nicer than any of the others. And the prices are very competitive. I thought they'd be on the high side, but they aren't. Really impressive...

My 94-year-old mother is the best mom in the world. She’s been my best friend for a lifetime, and watching her begin to struggle mentally the last few years was heartbreaking. After a difficult transition from assisted living in Massachusetts, I moved her to Sunrise of Summit Memory Care, and it was the best decision I could have made.

It wasn’t easy at first—change is hard at that age—but the love, care, and attention she has received here made all the difference. The staff welcomed her with open arms and treated her with dignity, respect, and joy. Today, my mom is thriving. She loves the place, she’s safe, she’s clean and comfortable, and most of all—she’s happy. And because of that, I can finally breathe again. No more sleepless nights worrying. My heart is at ease knowing she’s surrounded by people who genuinely care.

I want to give a special shoutout to Nikki, who leads the memory care team with such compassion and strength. And deep thanks to Farrah, Venessia and Maja who go above and beyond every day—they’re kind, supportive, loving, and always bring a smile to my mom’s face (and mine). Really I want to thank the entire staff because they are all so wonderful. The environment is beautiful, peaceful, and full of warmth.
