Star's Meat Market — Local services in Tallahassee

Excellent cuts of meat for what I needed and great service! I went to this market for the first time today and I was glad I finally did. I was assisted by three very helpful employees, one of which I believe was the current business owner.

I’m a bit of a small guy, so it caught them off guard when I asked for a whole beef ribeye cut into two inch thick steaks and three lbs of short ribs, but once they knew I meant business they were happy to get to cutting and packaged everything very nicely for me. I didn’t have any additional trimming to do when I got home, and the cuts were the perfect thickness. The meat was nice and clean, and very cold to survive the drive home.

I don’t like quoting prices I paid in reviews because things change over time, but I can say that I was very happy with the price of the meat I took home, all 15 lbs of it! Its also difficult for me to judge how fast they are at busier times of day, but I was in and out very quickly.

I see some of the years old reviews on here and I was a bit hesitant to come here, but my experience was awesome and I am happy to do more business with them in the future.

Anyone looking for a great butcher, I highly recommend Star’s. Let’s keep in mind that this is a place where people chop meat for a living. I don’t expect them to treat me like I’m at a nail salon or a Starbucks. I can say though that they were very personable and I am a...

Update: Once I got home I realized I was charged $11 for 7 heads of garlic. The garlic was OLD, most of them were sprouted already and some were rotten. DON'T BUY PRODUCE HERE! The meat is bought were horrible cuts as well! The pork shoulder is bought was ALL fat. The butcher asked if I wanted a cut with or without bone. I didn't realize he was going to give me a cut that was useless. BEWARE and check the meat before paying!!!!! After living here for a year now, I have spoken to others about this place. They will rip you off fr.

The meat is excellent quality, shop is clean, and staff is friendly! I will be back. But I was confused about the prices of the produce. On the container of 7 heads of garlic it has a sticker that states $24 for 5, 5 of what though? 5 packs or 5 heads of garlic... so I asked the person at the container and they said it was only $1.25 each. Because it was in a sealed/wrapped container I was assuming she ment $1.25 for the whole pack. Very confusing. I didn't need all 7 heads of garlic and I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it was $1.25 per head of a sealed package. Like can I open the package and take what I need? If not maybe the price should reflect the quantity of garlic in that pack. All that being said I probably won't be buying produce here again and I don't recommend anyone...

Last Monday November 19, 2018 I dropped my deer meat off to be processed. When talking to the gentleman (Mitchell), he told me the turn around time would be sometime in the next week. After not hearing from him until Friday November 23, 2018 he explained to me that the meat came to a total of 21lbs and that he would have everything done and ready to be picked up near the middle of next week, which to me sounded very light seeing as the deer itself weighted in at 198lbs. On Tuesday November 27,2018 I received a phone call from Mitchell again, he told me that my deer meat had to much grass on it and it was not worth his nor anyone else's time to clean it and process it, also that the meat was no longer good and needed to be picked up asap or they would through it out. When I asked to speak with the manager, he told me that everything Mitchell had said was true and would not give me any reason as to why everything from Friday was not correct and why my meat was no longer good.
