Amazing place to safely(10/21/2025. Removed "safely") train and progress in martial arts. Highly recommend!
Update on 10/20/2025. I had to leave the Dojo for Personal Reasons, but I do still highly recommend it. Especially classes with Professor Mike, who's in my highly subjective opinion is a "Living Sun" and Professor Joel, whose class I attended only once, but I was really impressed by his open-minded and detailed approach to teaching.

Read moreDue to work obligations and my folks living nearby, I had the privilege of dropping in at The Jiujitsu Project In Tarpon Springs. (My home gym is my beloved Oregon Pound -- Please visit if you're ever in Oregon!). I travel a lot, and the first thing I always do is find a BJJ gym so I can keep up with training. In all my travels, I have NEVER had a better experience than I did with these guys (and gals!). The level of instruction is detailed, comprehensive, organized, and effective. The instructors are high level, accomplished black belts who teach with humility and with high expectations. A great aspect of all whom I learned from is that they are uniformly aware of when they have been heard and understood. This is a rare (and much appreciated) skill.
In addition to all of that, from the head instructor, Professor Michael Geery, to the most recently minted white belt, all were uniformly polite, kind, respectful, and welcoming. If you are anywhere near the area and have a chance to visit, it is more than worth your time. If you live locally, you should consider making The Jiujitsu Project your home gym. You will not be...
Read moreI train BJJ in Houston Texas but grew up in New Port Richey. I came back this winter to spend the holidays with my family and was looking to keep training while being away from my home gym. Luckily for me my dad pointed me in Mike's direction and he welcomed me with open arms and allowed me to train with him and his guys. Everyone that I met while training here was very welcoming and good training partners, there's no question that Mike runs a quality program. I had a great time while visiting and I learned new techniques from Mike and others at the gym. I will definitely be coming back to train at New Port Richey Jiu Jitsu academy next time that...
