I've been here three times now. The first time, I was so overjoyed to find a used bookstore, I bought a ton of books! The second time I noticed that the pricing had gone up, but didn't want to fight about it...so I bought a few things and left.
The third time I figured I'd do something nice and give 40 volumes of manga (some of which are out of print) to the shop for a store credit. The lady behind the desk (I was there November 3rd around 1 pm) looked over the books, while I browsed.
Another woman came in with books to donate and she was told she could not be helped at all, because the store employee was dealing with my books. Why did she turn this woman away without even asking me if I minded waiting? Seemed odd, but not my business.
Anyway, the lady behind the desk tells me I can get a $17 credit...for 40 volumes of manga. That's not even a dollar a book! And I knew as soon as I left, those books would be sold for around $10 each as many were in perfect condition and very desirable series. I must have turned blue when she said that.
I ask her where she came up with that number and she couldn't tell me. Instead she started talking about how there had to be a demand for the books and how some of them were out of print. First of all, I know how supply and demand work. Second, since when does being out of print lessen a books value???
Once I started look a bit panicked, the clerk told me I could swap out the five books I had for all of my 40. I was like, hell no. I had to ask for my books back four times! She didn't want to give them to me! Is this what I get for trying to be nice and support a local shop??? Not even a dollar a book?!
You couldn't pay me to go back here, though I doubt they give a shit, since they clearly don't mind insulting...
Read moreGood selection, but note that book trade-ins will yield minimal amounts. I gave them 4 books that I have a feeling might be resold for at least $8 apiece (including two out of print editions of classics and a textbook) and was given a $3 credit. 😅 If you want more money for your trade-ins, you may want to try another store in the area like Annie’s Bookstop, or put them in a drop box for book selling or charity.
I really wanted to support a local store and was excited when I was told they would give me a credit for my books. However, when they didn’t even want to offer $4 for 4 books, it bothered me. I wish I had donated to More Than Words instead. If I had, my books might have actually helped people who need it instead of just another business. Because of the way the trade-in was handled, I don’t feel like I gave anything away. Instead, I feel like something was taken from me. I would not recommend going to this store for...
Read moreBeen going here for about 25 years. but after my last few visits, I won't go back very often. They used to have a great Sci-Fi -Fantasy used books section, and I would leave with multiple books. Now they don't have many, a lot of Star Wars and Star Trek, which is great, but not a lot of variety of others. I read a review from another person that said the person behind the desk couldn't give her much in the way of store credit for books because they were out of print. When I tried to buy a book recently that was no longer in print, the price was tripled the original price! ( used books are 1/2 off price on cover) Her reasoning- It's no longer in print??? Try going to Rivendell books in Rehoboth on route 44 for sci fi- fantasy. The owner, Rob, is a great guy and friendly. He also sells all kinds of games, collectible cards, MTG, etc.. I always find books there at...
