2022 UPDATE: In Nov. of 2021, I started noticing some changes in personnel and a different attitude all around in this shop. First of all, no complimentary beverages were offered, not even water. (IFYKYK, Ladies...right? One of those nice little perks.) And there were new chairs. (!?) On my next visit, I saw an older couple just sittting/observing and was told they were "new owners." That was also the last time I saw the last of my favorite manicurists/pedicurists, "Tiger." (Even though I mentioned him and he had no client at the time, I was given to another technician. In Jan., 2022, I noticed a new "menu" with much higher prices (yes, I understand inflation, but this was drastic!), and someone finally gave me a straight answer that Tran and Phillip no longer owned the shop. Which explains everything!
I really tried to keep giving "Oscar Nails" my business, especially when I couldn't get any leads on where the previous owners may have gone. There were a couple of the technicians who were friendly, attentive, and did a great pedicure (I don't usually get manicures.), and I sucked it up on the pricing. Eyebrow and facial waxing were okay. However, when I did my usual walk-ins a couple times when I knew it wasn't (supposed to be) busy (like on Mondays and Tuesdays, especially morning), I was given the cold shoulder and asked to come back later. If I called to make an appointment, even for another day...kind of the same thing. But, I kept trying. I still felt the prices were steep, and it seemed harder to get in. While the technicians were friendly enough, I never really felt welcomed like I used to feel with the previous owners/staff.
The straw that broke the camel's back was in June, prior to a business trip. They weren't spacing people (despite the rise in the "new" covid/advisories in this area), the chair contols were a little icky and then I started noticing the unclean floor and the walls. Tran and Phillip would have NEVER allowed that level of uncleanliness to exist. And, to boot, my pedicure did not last like it usually does. That was "The End." I'm sorry, "Oscar," but I won't be back.
2020 Post : So, I've been coming here for the better part of 2 years. Still love it! Tran and Phillip run a lovely shop and make everyone feel welcome, and all the technicians are kind, talented, and friendly. Never disappointed!!
["My" previous place was taken over by new management, and while my favorite technician was still there, sadly, things were just not the same overall. A friend recommended Oscar to me and I'm so grateful!] Love this place and the kind, gentle people who work here. So restful and soothing; clean and professional. Their chairs are the BEST - so relaxing! The technicians (especially Lina and Jorie) are so kind and gentle, but make my feet feel like a million bucks. Waxing service is good, as well. Have not had a manicure yet, but everyone I know and those I've observed seem pleased and they always look great. Highly recommend!
Update: Have started getting my nails done, with SNS/Dip powder. I love it! Tran and Phillip do such amazing job, and so does Maria. Honestly, I was sceptical because I'd had SNS manicures before (at my previous spot, mentioned above, and then at another very popular Tempe salon) and the processing was totally different (BOTH used the UV lamps between dip layers(!) and the manicure never lasted more than a few days: peeled right off! At Oscar Nails, the process is meticulously followed and it lasts 2+ weeks, longer if you aren't grading a zillion papers and moving boxes! Such a natural look and my nails are growing out, finally! Thank you, Oscar Nails!! [Another update: due to being out of town, my last SNS manicures made it over 3 weeks! No breaks or splits! And my nails are so strong and long that for the first time in forever, I had to ask to shorten them! Oh, and I always forget to mention the lovely little special beverages available when enjoying deluxe or full services! The pink one...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been going to this place for several years while living in Tempe. Iāve always had good service, some weird comments were made but I chose to ignore them. After moving I hadnāt been in awhile and I choose to stop in to get a manicure while in the area and noticed the staff had changed. I told the lady (Anne) I wanted a manicure and asked if I should get dip or gel as I was transitioning from acrylic so my nails were short. She speaks to two others (another woman and a young man) in their language and all 3 of them laugh. She says to me, gel would be best. I then asked, what was so funny? No one answered me, I asked again with no reply. As I didnāt mind them speaking in their language, I just found it rude that they were obviously talking about me and then laughed. I did get my nails done because I had a very important work meeting to attend that same day. Iāve spent lots of money in that establishment over the years, and now it just seems itās ran by young very immature technicians. My daughter, and friend also had similar experiences, we never try to through race in anything, but it sure feels something is off. I also noticed the other women that were not my complexion werenāt treated like me when they came in for the same service. Needless to say we wonāt be back. Please work on how you treat people and your body language while speaking in your language most do not understand. It can come off rude, and disrespectful to the customers that are spending their money in your establishment while you have your hand out for tips, if that is a hard request than you need not be working...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI got a gel manicure 9 days ago. First she was late to my appointment but thatās honestly fine, but she just rushed so so quickly through it. She shaped my natural nails so quickly, usually they do one and ask you if that shape is ok but she just went through and did them all before I even had a chance to see. And not once did she ask me if I liked the shape or anything. Then for the manicure part she just lazily pushed my cuticles back so quickly, I mean it was over and done with in a few seconds. I donāt want to sit there forever either, but she just didnāt take any care or pay attention to detail. I have medium/long natural nails and she made them short/stubby and so ugly lol. It was too late to say anything and I didnāt want them to be filed more and them get shorter. Then she put the base coat on and went to apply the colored gel, but something had gone wrong and so she just wiped all the base off all my nails and didnāt even bother to re apply. Then she painted them, it was a sheer color so she had to do a few coats so it did get thick and lumpy in parts. Then today they just completely lifted off, so after 9 days I have literally no gel polish left on my nails. My natural nails seem really...
