As the original owner of this receiver (1970 pioneer SX990) I am very cautious to whom I give to repair. It was my graduation gift from high school , from my brother serving in Vietnam, purchased in Japan. Well you know things are degrading when you need the tone controls on full , and the loudness button on to get a good sound. I thought it was my age until I brought it to Willie. Final outcome , previous repair was not in good standing from years ago. I had sound technology test and diagnose the unit and their expert eyes notice various faults. caps were leaking and transistors mismatched resisters bubbling. After repair, WOW - WOW better than new, they take everything personal as if the were working on their own amp. Do not hesitate to have them check or repair your unit. The price was certainly a deal considering all the labor of soldering new components. The sound detail , separation and headroom is incredible!!! I hear things I never heard before even at a low volume. And that's with the loudness button off and the tone controls flat. Take your vintage unit to them working or not, while there are still craftsmen in this career still around....

Barry Landau and his exceptional TECHNICAL STAFF, are "straight up" FIRST CLASS in every sense. Mr. Landau answers his phone, and immediately responds 7 days 24 hours, regardless of issue. That Friends is understanding "Customer Service".
If you want "Honesty, Integrity, and SERVICE", you're at the right place. If you want CHEAPNESS AND HEARTBREAK, go elsewhere.
My equipment is not "Cheap", and I don't want "Cheap" service. So far, Barry and "Top Shelf Technicians" have completely refurbished my Pioneer SX-1010, Fisher 500-B, and Sansui 9090. To say I am delighted would be an understatement.
I obsess over my equipment, just like the day I bought it, and they understand a personal attachment to such things.

Read moreLet me just say Willy is the man. I have a beautiful, tempestuous vintage Pioneer amplifier that in the last 4 years has been in the shop more than not. I've taken it to two other shops (both competent shops) and while we made various tweaks, I'd invariably wind up back in the shop. I took my lovely monster to Willy and crew and had a few ideas in my head about possibilities for the cause of the problem. Willy was the first one to stop and really listen to me describe the issue and we had a great dialogue about possible causes. Lo and behold, the problem wasn't where everyone else had been so focused on. In short order, he called with the cost to fix the problem and the cost for a more comprehensive proactive approach. The work was done quickly and at a very fair price. It's been singing ever since. I can't recommend this shop...
