Normally I'm very happy with all of my Big Y visits but today not so much. I tried to pay for an eversource bill there which it says all over the Eversource website that they take payments not only at Big Y but specifically at THIS Big Y. After spending about 15 minutes- first with the young people at the courtesy desk who first said they don't do that, then, they were able to get on to Eversource but were unable to complete the transaction. At this point the employee informed me he was "declining this transaction" because he said the phone numbers didn't match- I looked them up on eversources website - they did match by the way- I've had the same phone number for at least 10 years so I knew that couldn't be the problem.
Still- the words he's "declining my transaction" like I had a negative account? This was after I heard the clerks say something to the woman before me about her trespassing! I have no idea why- neither did the woman apparently as she replied "I shop her twice a week but I'm trespassing because I'm trying to cash a check?" The verbiage is a bit negative- scary even!! Are you trying to keep your customers or embarrass them?? I asked to see a manager hoping it was someone who had been there longer and knew how to use the equipment. Instead, what I got was manager that came over and just casually remarked " we don't do that here" to which I replied they are in the program but are unable to complete the transaction. He just shrugged his shoulders and was no help whatsoever. The whole thing perturbed me and I left the items that I had planned on purchasing on a counter nearby and walked out of the store. Of course my luck as it is sometimes- I get to my car and realize I've left my car keys somewhere and now get to go back in to the store. Great! I go back in and there's the manager with the items I had left and he says " I assume you don't want these". He couldn't just leave it as it was pretty obvious I wasn't happy with the transaction. I replied, "no- I think you were very rude and no longer want anything from this store." And what do you think he said? An apology, or anything to try to help the matter? No- he said, "No I wasn't..." That's it- like a 4 year old's reply.
I disagreed or shook my head-something that indicated I was not going to pursue this idiotic conversation further and tried to leave again- but still had to look around until I finally found my keys a few minutes later. Thankfully I didn't see the manager again for any more of his terrific customer service skills.
The thing that I thought about once I finally got into my car was - I hope he gets the same customer service when he needs help next time. Karma is usually pretty...
Read moreI was shopping here with my friend, grabbing some lunch late in the afternoon on Monday, October 4th 2021. I want to say it was around 3-4 pm at time. It was pouring rain and we had a service dog with us. The dog was in a blanket because of the weather so the vest was covered at the time. We were just absolutely soaked from walking in the rain. We were in the store for approximately ten minutes, grabbing salad, sushi and a few beverages. We went to check out and the cashier was almost finished ringing us out and we were saying out loud what a good dog she is- of course being a trained service dog, she does not bark, move in any strange fashion or become an issue in any way. An older woman, I believe her name was Bobby, (short brown hair and glasses) came over to us and just started to absolutely yell at us and berate us, I had never been spoken to like that in my life. She was insisting we needed to leave- no problem, we were! We were checking out. Then she said it didn't matter we were checking out and paying for our 90$ in food, "LEAVE NOW" she yelled. We were frantically trying to grab our stuff and go. My friend ran out with the dog and I was just trying to grab the change and the food. It wasn't to me the issue that they do not allow service animals (or she thought it was a regular dog?) in the store, but that she yelled and berated us and spoke to us like that. No one deserves to be spoken to like that. I was absolutely mortified. Big Y, you should be ashamed that you have a person like this...
Read moreOn Tuesday September 17th at 10:36pm I was racially profiled by Ivonne at self check out who purposedly moved towards me when I approached. As I was scanning my items I made sure that I was scanning all of the items in my cart. Before I could finish scanning my items she said "I think you missed the bread". I was not ready to cash out yet nor had the ability to double check if I scanned everything before she told me. I asked her if she was watching me and she said yes even though there were at least 2-3 other people at self check out that she didn't even look at because she was too focused on watching me scan every item in my cart. I asked her if she was watching the other people too and she incorrectly said yes she's watching them too when she made it clear she was focused only on what I was doing. It would be different if she was also watching and approached each person that was in self checkout but she did not. This is very disgusting behavior and I have been coming here regularly after work at least once a week. I will never...
