I brought in my computer because it was continuously disconnecting and reconnecting from the internet. I suspected that the motherboard would need replaced, so I took it to Ace based on the strong reviews here. They told me it would take a couple days to get around to it, which is fine. Here's what followed:
1 - They call me back 2 days later to tell me that one of the fans need replaced and the video card driver is out of date. I asked "But the rest of the computer is working fine and it connects consistently to the internet now?" and they said "yes, we thoroughly test everything we send out."
2 - I came back the next day and paid them $150 for the work they did, just happy that I'd have back my computer again and it would work correctly. (I'll even forgive the fact that both the voicemail they left me and their posted hours said that they open at 8am and nobody arrived until about 8:25)
3 - I got home and it was having the same internet problem. The lights on the Ethernet port in the back would be on for a while, and then shut off completely, over and over and over. So I called them up and told them this was still happening. He said "Well it worked here. Who's your internet provider? You should call them and see if there's a problem with that." I said "I don't think it's that because I have other devices with a steady internet connection. Are you sure you really tested the internet connection for a good long while?" - "Yes, we tested it, it worked fine here, it must be Cox."
4 - So I call cox, they said everything was fine, as expected, so at this point I'm frustrated with Ace, so I called up my buddy who worked in IT. He recommended a USB to Ethernet adapter which I was able to get at Best Buy for 19.99 and that fixed my problem completely.
No idea why I paid Ace $150 to not fix my problem. Lesson...
Read moreNow I remember why I started going across town for my computer needs. Several weeks ago I reached out to Ace Computer looking to convert one of two older machines to Windows XP for the purpose of vintage gaming. I stated that I had an old Vista machine that would no longer power up, as well as an old Window 7 machine. In attempting to run vintage XP games, the Vista machine would run some on “compatibility mode” but not all. The Win 7 would not run them at all. Again, looking to end up with a Windows XP machine using my old hardware. Bret spent the first week to 10 days or so rebuilding the Vista machine to run Vista, “updated with better drivers“, and looking to charge me $180 for his parts and labor to get the Vista machine running Vista (gaming in compatibility mode). NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR, LOOKING FOR A MACHINE RUNNING XP FOR VINTAGE XP GAMES”. Since reminding him of what I originally asked for, he told me “we talked about many things…” and I am still waiting. Weekly calls to check on his progress have resulted in “still working on it“. Again, I am reminded why I stopped going to Ace and started going across town for my...
Read moreThe owner was very helpful but not honest. He sold me an Intel i3 12th gen CPU for 195.00 which was 95.00 over the current retail price. I could have bought an i5 12th gen for 200.00. He insisted it was a great deal but Walmart and Best Buy both have the i3 for 90.00. Integrity is lost on this owner. He's greedy and...
