It seems these days a lot of grocery stores have Asian items available. But there are times you just need to go to an Asian Specialty Market like Tokyo Central.
At this store they have lots of meat cases with an assortment of specialty cuts of meat that you won't find at your average grocery store. On my latest visit Kewpie mayonnaise was on sale at a great price, so I grabbed some. There are lots of Japanese canned goods, and dry goods to browse. There is also a Hawaiian Goods section. In the refrigerated section you'll find items from tofu to tsukemono. The Produce section is large, well stocked, and looks fresh. They also have a large section of sweets & snacks with a vast assortment of treats to choose from. Last but not least, is a section of ready to eat foods from sandwiches, bowls, bentos, and sushi. On the hot food side the delicious collection of dishes are sold by the pound. All the food is freshly made. There was a woman that was constantly maintaining and overseeing all the various dishes assuring they remained tasty.
Self checkout is just a few steps away, so if you are just getting food to go, it is quite convenient. A very helpful woman showed us how to use self checkout to purchase the Hot Food by the pound. If you need help, I'm sure someone will assist you. They even have a small dining area available to enjoy your food. I tried some Shumai, Fried Rice, Chicken Karaage, Tonkatsu, and Menchi Katsu. Everything I ate was delicious, and overall it was a great value. I'd definitely eat their Hot Food by the...
Read moreI recently visited Tokyo Central on Pacific Coast Highway, and I must say—it’s a fantastic addition to the area! Having just opened on December 14, 2024, the store is modern, well-organized, and stocked with an incredible variety of authentic Japanese groceries, fresh produce, and specialty items.
One of the highlights for me is their dine-in option. The food court offers a great selection of freshly prepared meals, including delicious sushi, ramen, and bento boxes. The sit-down area is comfortable, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a quick bite after shopping.
That said, I did notice that some items are a bit pricier compared to other stores, but the quality and selection make up for it. If you're looking for authentic Japanese products and fresh, ready-to-eat meals, this place is worth the visit.
The staff here are also super friendly and helpful, making the overall shopping and dining experience even better. Whether you're looking for high-quality Japanese ingredients, ready-to-eat meals, or just a great place to grab lunch, this location definitely delivers.
I highly recommend checking out Tokyo Central on PCH—it’s truly a hidden gem for Japanese food lovers!

Read moreI love visiting this store and exploring its various locations throughout LA County. However, I didn't have a great experience at checkout today. I noticed security was staring at me intensely the entire time. I dropped a few of my items because I felt like I was being overseen. As I was about to pay for my items, the security man rushed up to me and accused me of not scanning an item. He proceeded to take the items out of my bag and look through the transaction. I showed him how the shampoo was included in the transaction, and he claimed I had missed items. I pointed out how each item was on the transaction, and he stared at the screen for a moment, not believing me, and then walked away. I was in shock over the ordeal and began to walk out. As I was leaving, I noticed the family behind me was also upset and walking fast past me. I overheard one of them mentioning how security had also accused them of stealing some of the warm foods they had purchased. The situation was overall ridiculous as security had accused two separate parties of stealing within two minutes. It makes me hesitant to visit this location...
