When i think supermarket i think shopping for consumption. I want to preface my review with that statement because that is the single most important function of a supermarket.
This place is VERY beautifully put together: from the casino like atmosphere to the abundance of variety in offerings. In fact it feels like a casino. You walk in and you have various stations for everything....fish, bakery, meats, subs....everything. There's a Cafe seating area that looks like it could could be the buffet restaurant at the borgata in Atlantic city. I'm pretty sure there's nothing you can't find here in terms of filling your kitchen cupboards.
The problem is you go to the casino once in a while not every week.
The prices are outrageous.
Sourdough loaf of bread $9.99 Small house salad (i mean tiny) $14 A regular sized cornbread loaf $13
You can't touch the pastry and cake department unless you're taking out a loan.
Tiny piece of triple chocolate cake 6.45 Small fruit cake $34 Cupcake at $9 Small tray of 12 baby cupcakes (found in any supermarket) $14
I could go on.
I observed many people strolling around with mostly empty shopping carts, even though it was pretty crowded at 9:30 pm on a Saturday. A few carts contained one or two items, but none were full. The carts' smaller size compared to standard supermarket carts further emphasized the cost constraints.
This supermarket's pricing isn't suitable for Suffolk County, NY, serving Lake Grove, Smithtown, Nesconset, Islip, etc. It's more akin to what one might find during a winter vacation in Boca Raton, Florida. The prices are exceptionally high; imagine paying ten dollars for a bottle of water. I'm quite surprised that such a luxurious and expensive store opened in a lower-middle-class area. I usually welcome new businesses that benefit our community, but this is a significant disappointment. I can't justify paying double for groceries, regardless of the store's aesthetics. A supermarket should be a reliable place to obtain affordable food for one's family. Unfortunately, this one falls short.
I usually try to avoid writing negative reviews, preferring to focus on positive experiences. However, in this instance, the negative aspects unfortunately outweigh the positive ones. The staff were pleasant and seemed proud of their workplace, which was a positive attribute. Nevertheless, the high cost of the products left a negative impression. We visited with friends, intending to purchase pastries after dinner, but ultimately decided against it due to the unexpectedly high prices, which were significantly more than our recent meal at a local restaurant.
My two-star rating reflects the high prices and the feeling that this establishment caters to a limited clientele, given its size and location. I am unlikely to return unless the prices become more reasonable. That being said, if you appreciate visually appealing displays and decor, a single visit might...
Read moreWegmans isn't just a grocery store; it's an experience, a culinary paradise, and frankly, a place I look forward to visiting. From the moment you step through the doors, you're enveloped in an atmosphere that's vibrant, well-organized, and brimming with an incredible selection.
What truly sets Wegmans apart is the sheer quality and variety. Their produce section is consistently fresh, colorful, and diverse, making healthy eating a joy. The seafood counter is a revelation, offering an impressive array of responsibly sourced options, and the meat department always has exactly what I need, whether it's for a quick weeknight meal or a special occasion roast.
But it doesn't stop there. The prepared foods section is a lifesaver on busy days, with everything from delicious sushi and gourmet sandwiches to hot entrees that taste homemade. Their bakery consistently churns out incredible breads, pastries, and desserts. And let's not forget the international aisles, the vast cheese selection, and the craft beer and wine offerings – there's always something new and exciting to discover.
Beyond the products, the staff at Wegmans are consistently friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They seem genuinely happy to be there, and it makes a huge difference in the overall shopping experience. The stores are always immaculately clean, and the checkout lines, even when busy, move efficiently.
Wegmans has truly mastered the art of grocery shopping, transforming a mundane chore into an enjoyable outing. It's more than just a place to buy food; it's a place that inspires you to cook, to try new things, and to...
Read moreWent last night later in the night when it would be less busy. To start I'm giving it 4 stars because I haven't had their prepped food like the Chinese yet.
The store itself is a good size and we'll stocked with a variety goods. What I'd like to address are the people who left reviews complaining about the prices mainly because it's either they don't buy groceries normally or know how to cook.
The prices in comparison to other stores like north shore farms are on par. Sure you'll find some more expensive stuff such as the 200$ japanese A5 waygu steak cut at the butcher but Meats are relatively the same and the quality is good.
I picked up a gold pan with 2 preseasoned Steaks for about 35$ so 17$ a steak. You can find individual Steaks for roughly the same price sometimes less or more depending on the weight. Produce was about on par depending on what is in SEASON.
As for things like cookies being 17$ for a tub of them, they're meant for you to impulse buy. It's hard to take low reviews seriously when I saw one photo of an uncut rack of lamb about 8 bones, for 25$ when for 20$ you can get a precut package of 4 from stop and shop. Not to mention, a dozen and a half eggs were about 8$ which is decent when I've seen other grocery stores sell a dozen for 8$.
Go into the store, look around, and don't listen to people complaining about high prices when groceries can vary from...
