I was referred to Mercy Walworth by my dr. , I had stage 2 cancer and it needed to be removed over two surgery’s over the month of July 2024. I received a call 10 days prior to my 1st procedure with instructions for the visit etc. and was also told That I will need to pay $12000 up front. I explained I had Insurance+medicare. The person told me that the $12000 is was my portion /co-pay, i again questioned her and was told “this is common with most Mercy Walworth patients” still not happy with the answer I showed up with a $12000 check on 1st procedure day. Upon checking in I told the desk person I needed to pay the 12k co-pay. She looked again at her screen and said “ no,you are good to go”. Kinda shocked but concerned about what was about to happen to me very soon I just took a seat. procedure #1 was completed. At appointment #2 I showed up and checked in at the same desk and was told “ you have to see Jamie before we can help you today”. I was led down the hall, greeted by Jamie Jansen. She is the Mercy health financial resource specialist. We went to her very small office and informed me that i had to pay my co-pay of $6000. I again told her I had full Insurance this shouldn’t be required. She insisted that this was my “my portion of the two procedures” still upset and confused but more concerned about my cancer that was getting worse by the day-I wrote her a 6K check ,that was deposited within 24 hours. Procedure #2 was completed. 4 weeks later I get the first statement from Mercy showing the charges, no where on the invoice shows my $6000 co-pay…. I was told it will be applied at the end of the billing. After some research and legal assistance I have found this is ILLEGAL in the entire country and Wisconsin where my procedures were completed. I call billing and asked to speak to a manager or Jamie who I spoke to in person and paid the 6K to. “They don’t take phone calls”.. after several more calls with zero results. I found an attorney close to the hospital who specializes in Elder Care. She told me to go in person ,state my case and demand a full refund my deposit, since taking any money up front as I NEVER HAD A CO_PAY /PORTION. As this is deemed in Wisconsin statute DHS 106.03. Any payment they asked me for was 100% MY CHOICE and also 100% OPTIONAL. On 12.10.2024 I drove to mercy to speak with JAMIE JANSEN (same person who wouldn’t let me have procedure #2 done until I wrote her a check for. The. “6K MYPORTION ,MY CO-PAY” Again not happy but I had to get this surgury done, I didn’t have an option to wait and question this and come back.) I arrived morning 12.10.2024, went to where Jamies office was, I asked for her and explained my displeasure at finding out ( after meeting with an attorney and doing much research) I told her that the person who called me and told me to bring $12000 to my first appointment and HER has well lied to me by telling me this was my “PORTION, CO-PAY” and that with just a handful of bills that my insurance has paid 100% of every bill submitted. The only bills unpaid are due to Mercy coding things wrong. I then told Jamie this is my Official demand for my $6000 to be returned to me no later than 12.17.2024. She laughed at me and told me “no one gets their money back until the bills are all paid”. She also laughed and said “ you drove all the way up here to tell me that” I was stunned-saddened-angry to say the very least. I told her “ I can’t believe you just laughed at me “. I told her meeting was over and if I do not have my $6000 back by 12-17 I WOULD SEEK LEGAL ACTIONS FOR MY AGGRAVATION-SUFFERING-EMBARRASSMENT-AND A REPRESENTATIVE OF MERCY LYING TO MY FACE. I wonder how many people have decided to not have needed procedure done because the DID NOT have the funds available for their CO-PAY or THEIR PORTION .. that in reality is 100% optional …. My Mercy Heath providers in Rockford where I live have never acted in this was. I had a $160000 procedure in 2020 and wasn’t asked for a DIME. Shame on Mercy Walworth and...
Read moreI took a 5 bypass heart patient with 24 hours of blood pressure at 190 over 100 last night. After over an hour in an empty waiting room he was seen for a total of 10 minutes and not given intetvention. He was given a med to pick up the next day at the pharmacy. I called his regular doctors oncall line. They advised we get back in car and go to their ER ( my gut initially begged me to just go there). She said universal protocol for 190 over 100 would be to immediately give a form of intervention and not release him until it reaches a certain level. A simple google search shows the protocol is NOT to send him home at 190 over 100, but to intervene until at least 160.
So I called Mercy Walworth to see if the doctor would call his med into a 24 hour pharmacy even if I had to drive further. Or have him back in to actually treat him.
The doctor got on the phone and TOLD me, my his blood pressure had been high for days, he should have been concerned sooner, and he should not have waited till a short staffed holiday night to suddenly get concerned. I told him it wasnt THIS high until today so he thought he could ride it out a few days and see if it went down.
He welcomed me to go seek healthcare somewhere else, he was confident with how he treated him. He was VERY hyper, SMUG, and COCKY.
He may have been within his rights and the law to choose his protocol. But just know, it was below and minimum of other local facilities, and he was proud of that when you consider this facility with your...
Read moreIt’s been two years since but I thought I would share my experience with this emergency room. I went to this emergency room twice within a month because my symptoms kept getting worse. I saw the same doctor both times and he claimed that my symptoms were just anxiety. The second time I went with my fiancés mom and she insisted that the doctor test me for Lyme disease. The doctor didn’t want to and was confident that the test would come back negative, well it came back positive. I felt like the doctor thought I was faking my symptoms, so I’m really grateful I had someone there to vouch for me. If she wasn’t there it would’ve taken even longer to find out I had Lyme disease and my symptoms would have gotten worse. Since we live in Wisconsin you’d think doctors would know more about the symptoms of Lyme disease, especially because it can be really serious if it’s not...
