What the heck??? I purchased both an engagement ring and wedding band at Heritage back in 2016 (NOT CHEAP!), and the customer service was iffy from the moment of purchase, on. On one occasion, while waiting to have the ring inspected, we waited an hour to be seen while the one guy behind the counter worked every angle he could on a guy to get him to overspend on a ring for his would-be wife. We sat there all this time listening to this ridiculous series of tactics while the people that had already spent their money were ignored. In the end, for our trouble, my wife was given a free Alex and Ani (sp?) bracelet for the inconvenience, which didn't make ME feel any better about sitting there all that time.
Fast-forward two years, I bought my wife a new antique ring (from a different jeweler) for our second anniversary, but when we got it, it was a tad too small. She went (alone) to Heritage to get an estimate to have it resized and to see about getting her grandmother's watch battery replaced. She was told at this time that the ring was a 5.5 and needed to be made an 8 to fit. They also replaced the battery on her grandma's watch, but it still didn't work. They quoted her a price of around $200 to fix a watch not worth a fraction of that, and $130 to resize the ring.
After I contacted the original seller of the ring, they told me they'd resize it for free. My wife went back to get her grandma's watch (which they didn't charge for), and to verify that, in fact, the ring size was an 8 so we knew what size to have the ring changed to. Instead of answering her, they gave her some cryptic answer about how they're a custom jeweler and how the ring sizing they go by is different than the standard sizing (funny this wasn't mentioned earlier in the week), then asked her why the ring wasn't purchased through Heritage. My wife explained it was a custom ring containing our daughter's birthstone (was coaxed to go get the ring from the car WITH our daughter in tow), and then told by the man at Heritage that they could've made the ring for us after inspecting it (what the hell?).
Instead of pleasantly answering a simple question, they were pushy and unpleasant and made my wife feel uncomfortable. Aside from any routine inspections of her ring down the road, they will not see me again, let alone another dime from either of us. This is exactly the pressure situation we aimed to avoid when shopping for jewelry, and not only did we witness it firsthand when purchasing our own rings, but we were made to wait an HOUR while witnessing them do it to another person, only to come back later for a resizing estimate and otherwise routine service for a watch to have my wife be badgered and guilt-tripped for not buying the ring from them.
AWFUL!
Oh, and an update...The 5.5 ring size Heritage said the new ring was is total BS. Three other sizing estimates at JC Penny and Zales revealed 6.5, 6.75, and 7 as the probable size of the ring (not sure why this is so imprecise?), with my wife's finger a size 7. Why would Heritage estimate the ring at 5.5 and my wife's finger an 8, unless they were trying to upcharge on the...
Read moreReally disappointed. I purchased my wife's engagement ring from Heritage in 2010. Vince was such a pleasure to work with that I returned to purchase the matching band shortly after. We were told that since we purchased the rings there that they were under warranty as long as we had them cleaned and inspected every 6 months, but were never given any paperwork on this warranty (I guess this is where we went wrong).
We have been getting the cleanings and inspections as we were advised to do and no one has asked us for warranty paperwork. We had the rings resized and soldered together in July of 2016. A small diamond in the setting fell out so we brought the ring in for repair in early January 2017. We were told that we needed to bring something in showing that the ring was cleaned and inspected in the last 6 months. So, we brought in our receipt from the resizing and soldering. Tim told us that this was not the correct paperwork and that we should have a pamphlet where they sign each time the ring is cleaned and inspected. I asked if I could have the pamphlet to get signed for future cleanings to make sure there is no issue on the future and Tim just kept saying that our ring isn't warrantied. At the end of our discussion we were given the ring and not charged for the service of replacing the stone and Tim said he would look into putting the warranty paperwork together and we could return a week later to pick it up.
A week later I stopped by the store to see if the paperwork was ready and I was told Tim was on vacation for the week and the paperwork was not prepared for me (I'm guessing he probably knew he would be on vacation all week when he told me to pick up the paperwork this week). I was annoyed, but I was patient and just called the following week. When I spoke with Tim on the phone he told me that he would not be giving me the paperwork. He also explained that they warranty their rings now, but didn't do that at the time I purchased the ring.
This whole experience left me feeling quite perturbed that I had been jerked around by Tim for a couple weeks. I was also disappointed to find that the warranty that I thought I was purchasing along with my ring by going to a local jeweler was non existent. I raved about Heritage since the day I bought my wife's engagement ring. This will no longer be the case for this jewelry store that doesn't plan to take care of an old customer...
Read moreI was offered an "exclusive" style chain, Tulang Naga by Samuel B. Not bad looking and it is exclusive to Heritage. Told Tyler where I wanted the chain to come down to by pointing on my chest and regretfully abide to his "expertise". I pay $275.00 + tax for a 26" chain and am told I would get it in about a month (bought on 3/15 est delivery 4/12). During the 2 weeks that I had to wait longer than est., I look up the Tulang Naga chain and see the exact and I mean exact same chain (besides 1 minute difference a piece of silver by the clasp with SAMUEL B engraved on it) on multiple websites for a fraction of the price. One being Etsy where a 24" chain is $82 and a 30" for $101. Another website was QVC. Are you kidding me? QVC? I can't remember exactly how much it was on QVC for, but it was also around $100. So I call to ask about returns after seeing the pricing discrepancies and since I have not yet received delivery but am told that you can only get a refund on a "specialty order" 5 days after order is placed (although that makes it hard to return if there is an issue on an item you receive 2 weeks later than estimated), but they will match advertised pricing. When I actually pick up the chain, the chain length that was ordered does not even come close to where I had told Tyler I wanted it to end up. As for the price matching on advertised prices , I am not eligible as the aforementioned minute detail is that it was made for Samuel B and that is what was exclusive to Heritage and since no one else is advertising a Samuel B Tulang Naga chain for cheaper, than nothing can be done on the price that is significantly more than it is on QVC/Etsy. Silver lining... although they will not give me a refund, or match the cheaper advertised pricing, they will let me put this chain up towards a replacement for the longer chain I initially wanted. Thanks guys... My recommendation, if you are thinking of getting something from Heritage, tell your grandmother what you are looking for and she will get a better deal on QVC. Just know, it won't be from Samuel B. The name no one has heard of. At least QVC will let you...
