A friend of mine recommended MGM hair studios and she had recently got her hair done by Marissa. Marissa did an amazing job because her hair color and cut came out amazing! So I decided to go to her to get a balayage and a cut. Unfortunately Marissa wasnât available for the date I made my appointment. The receptionist told me Amela was available, and that she was the owner so I was in good hands. So the day of my appointment comes and I can honestly say everyone in the salon was so friendly except for Amela. Amela started doing my hair at the same time Marissa began doing my friends hair and Amela rushed the process so quickly that I was done in half the time. That worried me a bit because I could tell she had other clients which were also waiting on her and she quickly rushed thru my hair. I thought maybe she just was more experienced and so she was able to do it quicker. Then came time to cut my hair and it was literally the worst haircut Iâve ever got. Iâve gotten a better hair cut from my local hair salon for $15. Funny thing is I didnât even ask for layers I asked for a simple trim and when I got home and did my hair the next day it wasnât even an even cut. The balayage she gave me was so horrible, you couldnât even tell I got my hair done. When Marissa did my friends hair the very first time you could definitely tell she got her hair done and it looked beautiful. Iâve been meaning to write this review for a long time. If you are planning to get your hair done from this salon please do not get it done my Amela. She isnât friendly and should work on her interpersonal skills. Also, all she cared about was taking pictures of my hair after which I must say are very deceiving because my hair looked nothing like the pictures she was taking. She literally ran her fingers thru my hair about 30 times till all my curls fell out which I know the other hair dresser worked really hard on. After she was done with her photoshoot she realized she messed up all my curls and asked if I wasnât to get them redone but at that point I just really wanted to get out of there.
I spend about $600 for a balayage/cut and it looked like I never got a balayage and that my child cut my hair. Very disappointed. Only advice I can give is stick with Marissa or anyone else and avoid Amela. Funny thing is Iâve read so many reviews similar to mine. Wish I would have read the reviews...

Letâs just say I have been coming to this salon before it got âIG Famousâ and before the renovations. So you are talking about 10 years. I used to be able to get an appointment with Amela, now you have to wait months in advance. It doesn't feel like a personal experience or quality salon anymore. You are passed from person to person like a sheep at this salon. âoh i cant blow your hair outâ someone else will have too. You have 4 people treating you on any given day. What happened to the days when Amela started from inception to finish on your hair.. color..cut.. blowout. Those days are memories of the past as the salon has become a breeding ground of overhyped IG feeds thrives on false promises to viewers. Promises to clients you'll come out having bombshell hair while paying nearly $500 plus minimum for services.
When i first started seeing Amela i paid $250 for wash, cut blow, baylage. Her prices have increased more than 300% in the last few years. This is Long Island, not a celebrity hairstylist. Every-time I go, the prices just get worse and worse. The service feels rushed as they try to keep up with the demand of the clients due to social media. Its a business now, no care for the clients.
I hope this review has helped coming from an OG MGM hair client. I no longer go here and I have no complaints because i have found Salons in Manhattan that charge less that provide the same results with better services and price. Good luck to you all, and the hype isint always what it seems to be. No one should be paying these high...
Read moreI have been searching high and low for a stylist out in Long Island for the past two years. Found Amela on Instagram and gave her a try. From watching her haircut videos, a lot of hair would be cut off, which I was fine with. I love my haircut. It needed a good cut and she did just that. She was very personable and friendly. I will continue to go to her. The receptionist was very nice, offered me a drink and made sure I was ok while I was waiting for my cut. I was a hair assistant many years ago in an upscale salon in the city. I was the owners assistant for four years before I got married and moved out on the island. The assistant that took care of me did not do a great job. My hair wash was rushed. She never washed the back of my head and to top it off, she was watching the soccer game on her phone the entire time during my hair wash!!! Very unprofessional especially paying a high price for a haircut. She was more concerned about the game and talking to her colleague the entire time about the game. I didnât get to relax (being a mom of three and just wanted some pampering and relaxation). Donât get me wrong, I donât expect the red carpet rolled out for me but, If that were me 10 years ago working in the city, I would have been fired. Especially, being the owners hair assistant. I tipped her what I thought was a generous tip. I should have given that tip to the receptionist! She did a better job than...
