This is a must do if you're in the region. We stayed in Lake Placid 1.5 hrs north and Lake George is very close. I booked this a few weeks in advance knowing from last year it sold out quickly. We did a 10:30am ride on a Sunday. I was initially concerned about getting stuck behind people that might stop to rest along the way and wondered if we would be passing through people's back yards. However, we were pleasantly surprised and impressed with the way the company orchestrated the operation! They recommended any where from a school bus length as the minimum distance between bike cars and a maximum of a football field. There were various people of size and fitness level and none posed a problem. The rail was relatively level the majority of the ride with an occasional area of 1 degree elevation. My husband pedalled 90% of the ride as it was simply that easy. I assisted on the inclines. I was also concerned if one person being out of sync with the pedalling would cause an issue but each set of pedals operated individually...so no issues! They spaced out everyone perfectly and were very experienced on who to place where. There was a 15 min break at the turnaround point which I think was 30 to 35 min out. You can sit at picnic benches and walk down to the river easily. We went in reverse order on the way back...again no issues with being stuck behind anyone. They did stop each bike at the bridge on the return to offer to take pictures with your phone and/or camera...which was awesome! The return trip was even easier as the inclines were all reversed of course. AND... no back yards! They bus you down to a point on the track that gets you out of the town and past the roads. There is one road they stand at right after you get on that is hardly used that they get you across and then beautiful rail trail along the Hudson the entire way! Tips: bug spray for the staying still times, snack and drink are allowed, there is an outhouse at the half way point but there may not be any toilet paper...they also state to take your bathroom breaks before you leave on the ride. Also, be sure your keys, phones, and wallets are secured. If you have shallow pockets, they may work their way out of your pocket while pedalling...one couple lost their phone along the way...we ended up hearing a ring tone on our return and let the team know where we heard it for them to hunt for it on next bike departure.
It was the perfect length of time and just really well run! All of the employees and owner were super friendly and cordial. An ABSOLUTE must do if in the region! There is a small selection of snacks and drinks at the station if you need anything before or during your ride. There is a basket to hold your small amount of belongings on each bike...like a...
Read moreWe had a fantastic day with Revolution Rail and their tubing partners with the Rail to River adventure. Everything was so well coordinated — the shuttle system between activities made the whole experience smooth and stress-free.
We started with a two-hour rail bike ride, which was peaceful. We saw several deer! We rode quad bikes, and even with just one person pedaling at times, they moved easily. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and prepared — CPR and first aid certified, and trained bike mechanics in case of any issues (though thankfully we didn’t need them).
After the ride, a shuttle took us to the tubing portion with Beaver Brook Outfitters. The transition was easy, and again, the staff was fantastic. They had life jackets in a wide range of sizes (child’s large to adult 3X), and the river guides were attentive — keeping everyone away from rough edges and making sure no one got left behind.
The only downside was the lack of changing facilities after tubing. Adding simple outdoor changing stalls or tents would really improve the end of the experience. The tubing partners have changing stalls but with the Rails to River, you are parked at the Rails so just the restrooms for changing.
Also, the staff was amazing across the board, and it would be helpful to have QR code options for tipping since cash can be hard to carry on an outdoor trip.
Overall, this was a fun, scenic, and extremely well-run outing, and we’d definitely...

From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for something special. The staff was so incredibly nice and friendly, setting the tone for a truly wonderful and memorable experience. The entire trip was an absolute delight, and we are already planning our return.
We chose the North tour, and the journey itself was a feast for the senses. As our two-seater bike glided along the tracks, we were immersed in the breathtaking beauty of nature. The path takes you right along the water, where you can feel the cool breeze coming off the Hudson River—it’s so refreshing and relaxing. We were surrounded by a beautiful canopy of trees, and the lush, vibrant greenery felt like a peaceful escape from everything. (We want to try this in the fall, it must be crazy!)
The highlight of the 7-mile round trip is undoubtedly the bridge. Crossing the bridge over the Hudson River offers truly breathtaking views that you simply can't get anywhere else. The panoramic scenery of the water and the surrounding landscape is magnificent. It's a moment that makes you stop and just take it all in.
The ride itself was surprisingly easy to pedal, with a gentle uphill grade on the way out and a smooth coast on the way back. With such an amazing experience located just a half-hour off the exit, it's the perfect way to spend a day immersed in nature. It was an absolutely great time, and we can't...
