Took a guitar here years back to have some new pickups, pots, and triple shot mounting rings installed, and setup. A couple of months and a complete rewire of everything and all new electronics, Terry called me up and said I was good to go. I dropped by the shop to finally pick up my axe after months of anticipation, plugged in in to one amp and....buzz. Tried another and....buzz. Terry told me the wiring on the inside was a work of art because of the amount of extra wiring that had to be done for all the new electronics, and everything was nice and clean looking on the inside. He told me that day that it would take him a few weeks to fix the buzz, and I would still have to pay for the labor for him to fix it. Because I was moving within the next couple of weeks and had already spent a good amount getting the loads of work done to it, I chose not to get it fixed. Years later I'm still sitting with a guitar that should sound like a dream that cant be played with the volume knob past 1/4. Every other experience I've had in the shop was a good one, Terry is very knowledgeable, has a great selection and loads of experience doing repairs. I may be the one in a thousand that had an issue, but it certainly left me with an expensive decoration that one day I'll end up paying to have fixed which shouldn't have been the case in the...
Read moreI brought my Takamine 12 string to Terry so he could evaluate worn frets. He asked a lot of questions to understand how I used the guitar and what I wanted. He offered me a number of options including a repair that would save me money. I chose to replace the first 6 frets and he gave me a price and I left the guitar with him.
When I picked up the guitar he told me that there were issues with the height of some of the other frets so he replaced 12 frets. I was happy that he found the issue and resolved it. I expected and was willing to pay more for the additional work but he only charged me the high end of the original estimate. This really surprised me and I offered to pay for the additional work but he stuck with his estimate. That doesn't happen these days and says a lot about Terry and his business ethics.
The guitar plays like it was new (maybe better) and the quality of the work is a work of perfection. I couldn't be more pleased.
On another note I needed a guitar to use while this one was being repaired. Terry has a great selection of used (and new) guitars and helped me select the best one in my price range. He gave me good price for it, which was around $100 to $200 cheaper than the big stores online.
I highly recommend Terry for your...
Read moreIt has been very firmly established that this is the only place I will go to have service done. Terry is patient and takes pride in his work, I have brought several instruments to him and every repair has been flawless and many times done on the spot in under 15 minutes. He always checks in on every change or alteration and offers several options for each. On my strat he recommended a set of Rio Grande Dirty Harry's during a rewire and they are some of the best pickups I've ever played through, hands down. Can't reccomend Beat Street enough, this place...
