I am from Toronto, Canada and visited Ulta beauty for the first time today with my daughter as we are on vacation in Albany, NY. I was appalled at how we were treated! Sure the 3 employees who came around asking if we needed help asked politely but 3 of them felt the need to come around on 3 separate occasions while another kept restocking shelves not too far away - after we walked in. We are not Caucasian but I am an extremely well paid government employee in Canada with enough money to burn on cosmetics and anything I want vacation in the US. How many of those Ulta employees can say that? I would have bought NOTHING from this ridiculous store but did not want my daughter to feel bad by causing a scene.
To note that no one wanted to follow or 'offer assistance' to all the Caucasian (white) women and teens who walked in after us. Surprise! Surprise!
Just so whoever is in charge knows - not everyone who comes to a store is there to steal. A little reapect please. We went out of our way to find an Ulta as we dont have one in Canada but after about 20 minutes at the store and constant vigilance my daughter just wanted to leave. We were not allowed to browse and shop in peace. A little training to respect people of all races would go a long way. I thought racial profiling was over and done with! Who is to say that the other women whonwere there werent stealing while you were busy tailing me and my daughter??
Ask your employees about this incident that took place just a while ago at your Rensselaer, NY location. (Aug 21, 2025 @ 3:30 PM)
PS: I PAID FOR the products my daughter wanted....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve had good experiences here in the past, but today was not one of them. Went into find a product that I really liked and purchased previously, but they didnāt have it. Upon asking about an alternative, I was led around the store by someone who didnāt really know what they were doing and who profiled me as a low-budget customer with earshot of me.
Took about three times as long as it should have to come to the conclusion that I should buy the one thing I asked about in the first place, which was a slightly different product from the same company. When I went to check out, the Apple Pay was not working. Also, only one person running registers on Saturday, so checkout took an astronomically long time.
In order for Ulta to get repeat visits from me, they will need to begin treating all of their customers, regardless of budget, with the same level of attention and respect. They will also need to have people who are more knowledgeable working in the store. Better staffing and a faster payment experience are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe employees are very friendly and attentive if you need help. I had gone to the store originally to find a face primer that didnāt break me out. One of their skincare specialists Sienna asked if I wanted to do one of their express facials (only $10!) to help with acne/break outs since I told her about my acne issue. I agreed since Iām currently struggling through a bad breakout. During the facial Sienna thoroughly explained each product and what they did and how they would feel on my skin. After the facial she took me around and showed me what products she would recommend for my skin and also recommended a face make up primer which Iām excited to use. The next morning I woke up and my skin is already clearing up, less red and irritated and so smooth! Definitely will be going back for the products she...
