[6-months-in Update:] This is the now the best shop in town for Rum (big deal for anyone who's interested in those complex multi-rum Tiki cocktails.) They still need to tack on a few bottles to be a real one-stop for Tiki cocktails, but I've just requested (and they agreed to stock) both Plantation OFTD and Smith & Cross, which gets them much closer. Some of the other notable Rums they stock are... Wray & Nephew unaged overproof, Appleton Estate Signature, Gosling Black Seal, Pusser's, Don Q 151 and so on. In addition to adding rums, they've also increase their stock of most other liquor, liqueurs, wines, etc and they're now a one-stop for most categories. They're also very responsive on the phone and can quickly lookup to see if they have what you want, so give them a call if you're not sure. [Original Review:] I've been to East Main Liquor three or four times now since it [re]opened, and so far I'm extremely impressed. Their ability and willingness to order bottles upon request, their location, and their reasonable prices set them apart. It's clear to me that they pride themselves on their customer service, and they want to win business by making sure they're accommodating everyone's' needs through on-request-ordering. That's very rare in my experience find, especially in smaller towns.
The very first time I walked into the store, after greeting me, they immediately let me know about their ability to order whatever I may need. I took them up on their offer, and requested 4 bottles (Green Chartreuse, Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Lillet Blanc, and Campari,) of which 2 are not stocked anywhere else in town. Without hesitation they recorded the bottles, and said they'd get them; there was no hesitation, they didn't ask me the price of the bottles, how many I would be buying, they didn't ask for money ahead, or anything else - they just said they'd get them. I called back in about a week and all the bottles were stocked. In fact, they had actually gone ahead and ordered both Yellow Chartreuse and Green Chartreuse without me even asking for the Yellow, which I very much appreciated. There are a couple large liquor stores in Buffalo that don't even have all of the aforementioned bottles, so I was very surprised and pleased with this interaction. Prior to this, I've asked other local liquor stores to order a few of these bottles and I've been disappointed to find that they couldn't or wouldn't do it.
You want to know about price though, right? The prices are very reasonable. I didn't find a single bottle that I was able to identify as overpriced, and that includes the bourbons. The same was true of the bottles that they ordered at my request.
For anyone who remembers Gentleman Jacks (the previous liquor store that occupied this space) the ownership is different, as is the store. The new owners have remodeled the entire store, gotten rid of the old beat up wooden shelves, the poor lighting, the barren shelves, and the significantly overpriced bottles. They've put in brand new shelving, better lighting, a more spacious layout, increasingly improved stock, and reasonable prices. Also, a note on their stock -- part of what they're doing is letting customers pick what they stock. This has already resulted in an excellent selection, and as their stock continues to grow, I expect they'll become a one-stop-shop.
I would strongly recommend this...
Read moreOwners are friendly & know how to accommodate customer pallets & beat most every price by allot (they really know how to run a business!). They select quality staff whom are friendly, skilled and knowledgeable! Huge selection for a small space. Walkable & right downtown. Meter day parking in front, free parking in the back municipal lot, where I think it's more a ramp up the back and not a step like the front entrance. It's a well stocked & well run store and competes or dominates over the...
