Today I was shopping at Evergreen. I used to really enjoy shopping here. But one day their cashier cheated me. It was unpleasant. And today the huge guy at the exit wanted to look at my receipt. If I had known that he would then begin to unceremoniously pick through my purchases, I would have refused to show him my receipt. He acted like he was a cop and I was a thief who stole something from a store. Why did he think I would like it? Other customers passed by, but for some reason he chose me. When I asked him the reason, he said that my purchases were not packaged in branded bags. Is this really a reason to suspect me of stealing?? I felt terribly humiliated. When I left the store, he stopped another store employee passing by and said something to him, pointing his finger at me and laughing. This was the last straw. I went back to the store and returned everything I bought to them. There are other kosher stores in the area, and some of them have lower prices. I spent my hard earned money in another store. When I got home, I asked Google a question about how legitimate such humiliating checks are. It turns out that a store employee can ask me to show a receipt, but I am not required to do so. He needs a good reason to stop me, otherwise he will be in trouble with the justice system. I have no desire to shop at Evergreen anymore. And now not a single boor in any store will stop me anymore. Now I...
Read moreLarge variety of different foods. Traveled from Putnam county. Ended up leaving store without any purchases & certainly won't return! We were here 2 yrs ago & experienced similar treatment. Started shopping & dining in Teaneck N.J. and we will continue to do so. Even the ultra orthodox there are respectful and menches. Majority of shoppers in your store are orthodox Jews. You may dress the part & pray the part; but are your hearts kosher? You are poor representatives of the "chosen" people. Where is it written in our Tanach that you have to walk so quickly; bumping into people, cutting in front of people, without the courtesy of saying excuse me, or I'm sorry. You can say the Shema & Aleinu prayers all day long. However, HaShem expects more then that from you! I wear a star of David. I had on a modest long skirt. No head covering....whatever! My husband who was born in Israel lacked payos. And if this is how you act towards fellow Yids, how do you treat non Jews? With all the negative publicity over measles outbreak, can your stores afford to loose business? With all the antisemitism & hate crimes against us, shouldn't we band together? Sign us AM...
