apparently there has been recent changes with ownerships within the family and the orchard is operating separately than the market , to expand on that when I Google pennings farms, it pops up as one and gives me ONE number ( when I called that number recently and I asked for the prices of the apples and just to get some further information as if we needed to reserve a day etc. they explained to me that during the week was 25 and weekends are 35 for apples ) which I thought wow thatâs a great deal we are going asap during the week ! Now me NOT made aware that apparently the orchard itself had different pricing. We had moved away from the area two years ago and came back and because of how excited we were to take part in the tradition that we always did , now having our family expanded and having a baby with us so we wanted to continue our tradition with the younger one Because our car is not big enough my mother-in-law and cousin had to drive separately. When we got to the farm we drove down to the orchard section because again there are NO signs or advertisement showing the difference , we didnât know about the market having their own orchard ( which is apparently the one they said that was 25 dollars during the week)A woman with blonde hair and a little dog in her arms ( just a side note which I thought was a bit weird, considering they have a no dog policy but workers can have them ? ) When we got there we explained immediately that grandma and cousin are in the car behind us but weâre only paying for one bag of apples for the family because we only needed that. I understand that she did say that weâre not allowed to do that( I would respectfully get it especially during a busy weekend ), you have to pay per car which I personally think thatâs kind of a foolish rule, especially during the week when it was very slow! So she made us park all the way at the top of the dirt drive way before the drive down and we had to walk all the way back down to her which again, I thought that was a little bit silly because youâre going to charge per car but if we park at the very top of the parking lot that we can all walk in together? What sense does that make ? Again the place was SLOW it was a weekday afternoon ! We did it anyway and finally when we got down to the woman we were going to pay and thatâs when she said $37 and I said well wait a minute I was told on the phone it was 25 , now again ( this was before I had knowledge of the two separate businesses )She then goes on to say, why are you guys snapping on me?! I said huh? we werenât even yelling at her we were just venting about how foolish some of these rules were, not once did anyone yell at her or call her names! I have a baby with me and a toddler, a grandmother too, . It was a hot day and we were sitting in the sun and sheâs making a fuss about the car situation ( when again knowing all the trouble the family is going through she could have just said ok listen itâs a slow weekday youâre fine ! I get itâs her job but you already see a family going through all this trouble !)So as we are discussing the price she is telling me I didnât call â herâ number or farm because they have always been $37 and I said maâam what do you mean how many numbers are there ? I called the one on google ! She then explained the difference ( but it took her a minute ) then said oh yeah I donât know of anything with the market above ( which I also thought was strange, considering she had mentioned that she has been working there for a very long time , how do you not know the prices and the overall workings of the farm in general ?)I then re called the number on speaker to make sure I wasnât going â crazy lol â and they indeed told me 25 but again everyone failed to make it clear that the farm pennings had different businesses on the property itself and theyâre really not one family Business, overall we did have a nice time at the market side but it was frustrating just trying to go apple picking and it shouldnât have been that confusing or that...
Read moreApple orchards aren't really my thing. In elementary school, we used to go apple picking every year for Johnny Appleseed Day--winner of the "Most Random Holiday" award--and I was never into it. Thus, while I'd driven by Pennings many times before when passing through Warwick, I never went in. But one day my mom and I made a pit stop here just to use the bathrooms. The line for the women's room was pretty long, which gave me some time to explore. All in all, Pennings is a pretty cool place. First off, I didn't realize that they have a beer garden. They don't do a good enough job of advertising it but granted it isn't fancy; just a bunch of picnic tables and a bar. However their taps were decent, including options from Dogfish Head and Victory, and they had additional bottle options. This is in addition to a small, indoors bar as well. I would've gladly grabbed a beer if I was with people or had more time. They also have a few food concessions, where I grabbed some apple cider donuts and apple cider for like $2. Given that it was the fall, there were also pumpkins everywhere, so we were able to pick some of those out as well. Lastly, between the indoor market and the home and garden area, we pick up a few other things including a bottle of their hard apple cider (pretty good). Damn good visit given that we were just going to use...
Read moreWe have been going to Pennings for the past 17 years. It has become our family tradition to go here apple picking every Fall. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience today. It was just straight out DISCRIMINATION!!!! The men working in the farm made a discriminatory statement...they said that we used an old bag and accused us of stealing apples and hiding them in our car. Let us be very clear, we paid $30 for our bag at the front entrance and every car was required to buy minimum of 1 bag. As we were picking and carrying the bag around, it looked torn and busted. The men accused us that we didnât buy the bag at Penningâs and it was an used bag. He said âasian stealers!â Excuse us!!!! We did not have to cheat for one bag of apples. Why couldnât you recognize your own bag????perhaps you should start labeling the date on the bags so you donât accuse customers for using an used bag. We were enjoying a beautiful day with our kids. And to be accused of stealing in front of our Children and everybody, we are extremely offended. We asked the men to inspect our car and apologize if they couldnât find apples in our car. They didnât check but still didnât apologize for their wrong accusations. We are very disappointed and will never come back. We left with Our half full bag of apples. This place is discriminating. Absolutely...
