I dislike writing bad reviews on local businesses because I know this is about a family-owned place, but I also want to make sure that potential customers are aware of what they may possibly be getting into.
During the pandemic (August 2020), we wanted to get a new freezer and decided to go with a smaller, family-owned business rather than a larger chain store. Our decision was made based on the knowledge that smaller businesses especially needed community support during this time. Unfortunately, our consideration wasn't returned - we ordered an upright freezer and were told to expect it to arrive in 6-8 weeks. That timeframe came and went with zero communication from them. Knowing that there was a shortage in factory staffing and materials needed for making appliances during the pandemic, we waited patiently.
In October - still no word - we contacted this store for an update. I spoke to someone there who said that the freezer was back ordered till the end of November 2020. Nothing else. That date also came and went with zero communication. I followed up again, now it's back ordered until the end of December. ... fast forward, there was never any communication initiated by this store. Ever. At one point (around March 2021) I called up, and was told that the problem was with the type of freezer we ordered (not something that was shared with us earlier) - so we asked to have it switched to a different model that was supposedly going to arrive sooner. Not. One. Call. Was. Made. To. Us. To let us know that this, too, would not arrive to us in time.
Finally, this month (May 2021) I requested a refund. They asked no questions, didn't seem to care at all to know why - they swiftly refunded us. That's it. Meanwhile, during this 9-month period we needed to replace our oven. We went with Lowe's because we no longer trusted Dave Hayes to be a reliable place to go to. Lowes kept us up to date all along the way, called us with updates to let us know that our stove would be two days later than expected
I realize a smaller business may have trouble updating their customers all the time ... however, I have to believe that in the 9 months of waiting we went through, that there could have been at least a handful of opportunities for them to reach out to let us know what was going on, and to help us perhaps figure out what our options were.
Needless to say, we won't be going with this company again. We would have loved to support a local business - but ... based on this customer service experience (or lack thereof), we won't be going...
Read moreLess than 1 star! Horrific experience! Please DO NOT do business with this Dave Hayes Appliance Center! The unprofessionalism of Dave Jr. and the incompetency of his installers has been nothing but a nightmare for my 76 year old mother. My mother purchased a washer, dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave and range hood from Dave Jr. as part of her kitchen remodel (these appliance had to be stored in our garage because warehouse did not have any room). When ready for installation, Dave's installers were not prepared (or ill advised). His installers had to make numerous trips to her house to include: sending 1 person to bring appliances into house, new fridge leaking water day after install, microwave said to be not working (wasn't plugged into a live outlet), unable to install dishwasher due lack of a 3 inch hole in side of cupboard, and lastly, the range hood (which they forgot to order) couldn't be installed because the wall wasn't prepared? Mind you, they would now be charging us an additional cost to come to the house again to install the range hood! I reached out to Dave Jr twice to discuss the issues and my phone call wasn't returned. Today, after speaking with his secretary (conversation escalated as we spoke), Dave Jr. got on the phone, refused to discuss the issues, screamed at me for being disrespectful, blamed the GC and FIRED US! My mom is a customer, she spent ALOT of money and her experience has been less than awful! We stayed local because we wanted to support our local economy. It was a mistake. Getting screamed at by a business owner that took ZERO accountability for his service was beyond unprofessional and disappointing. BUYER BEWARE! LESS...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst experience I've ever had with an appliance store. We bought a washer and dryer set from these guys, and what a mistake that was. Recently, our dryer stopped DRYING our clothes. I called to check the warranty, and they assured me it was covered. So, I scheduled a service appointment. A technician came out, took apart the dryer, and basically just cleaned out some lint that was in the bottom of the dryer. He said he'd order a part that was under warranty. Great, right? WRONG. The next day, I get a call from, I’m guessing the owner telling me, "Oops, sorry…we made a mistake! It must be a venting problem and the dryer is actually not under warranty and you now owe us $200 for the service call" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! They admitted THEY made the mistake of initially telling me it was under warranty, but now I'm stuck with a dryer that they made worse AND a $200 service call bill for NOTHING. As if that wasn't bad enough, now there are wires hanging out the side of my dryer (as shown in the pic), and the interior light is no longer working! This was not the case before the technician worked on it. They actually broke it further! So, I paid $200 for them to make a mistake and damage my appliance? Unbelievable. I would have been willing to work something out, even split the cost of the service call since this was their mistake…not mine. I was even considering buying a new dryer from them. Seriously, save yourself the headache and go elsewhere or go to Robinson's in Mohawk. At least they seem to value their customers and stand behind what they sell. I learned my lesson – I won't be back...
