Yorktown Stage — Local services in Town of Yorktown

My son attended Summer Camp here for 2 days. On the morning of Day 3, he was removed from camp and asked not to return. After speaking to my son, I found conflicting stories between what the teenage/young adult camp counselors said happened and what my child said happened. So, I called the camp to get the truth about what occurred. During the conversation, I found out that my son was involved in incidents however, the counselor admitted that they lied about many aspects of what actually happened. She apologized for the lies but my son was still asked not to return and no refund or partial refund was given. My 6 year old was asked to leave for being 6 and doing what 6 years olds do however, it seems like there was something underlying for my son to have been lied on and facts exaggerated in order to get him removed. My son is black. I can't help but shake the fact that played a role and there were some discriminatory practices going on. Currently, I have a very sad 6 year old who can't understand why he can't go back to camp and a very sad mom who issued consequences to her child based off lies told on him. I would NOT recommend this camp to anyone (especially POC) There needs to be more training on how to work with young children and how to keep them engaged without threatening them or bribing them. They need to do more regarding behavior management and there needs to be more adults on staff to help the young adults working with these very young children. Barry needs to take parent concerns seriously and take ownership and responsibility for the actions of the counselors that he hired and not make assumptions. Clearly and admittedly, the counselors lied to me about what occurred with my child in this camp and it resulted in his removal. Someone should be held accountable for that and it shouldn't be my 6 year old who didn't do half of what they say he did. I now know why there is a "behavior clause" in the camper information this camp sends out to parents. This camp KNOWS behaviors will occur because they know they don't have the proper training or management skills to deal with the large number of children they serve (about 30 kids in a group) and they want to keep cover themselves.To parents reading this honest review, I would say steer clear of this camp and the unacceptable way they deal with kids. Believe your child over all else and when something doesn't seem right, question it. Look for a different theater camp that has adults at the helm, one that understands child and adolescent development, and that can appropriately handle situations involving children without keeping your money and kicking out your kid...
