Longlong Art Studio — Local services in Troy

I’ve been a student at Longlong Art Studio for 4 years, and have honestly loved every second of my experience. When I moved to Michigan in the middle of 8th grade, this place was the first community that welcomed me with open arms. The people there were friendly and diverse, and it was overall a very constructive environment to be exploring art. Mrs. Longlong is very invested in each student’s growth and always pushes us to become better artists. After a few years, I began working for her as an assistant teacher and the experience has been just as amazing as being a student. I’d say that the classes are very project-oriented and you will always have a portfolio of artwork you’re working on.

Some classes I took there: Sketching/Portraiture Classes: We sat in a circle and practiced drawing each other in various poses while offering friendly critiques of each other’s work. Afterward, we would have asynchronous time to work on individual projects (usually art competition submissions) and could get help from the teachers.

Painting Classes: In the classes I took, we would work on individual projects while teachers walked around offering help. Sometimes we go to nearby parks for field studies and landscape paintings (Stony Creek Metro Park).

Drawing Classes: The teacher usually starts off with a warmup, or a lesson about art concepts (shading, texturing, etc) for the first half of class time before directing students to work...

My child has been studying at Longlong Art Studio since 2018. During the past five years, my child enjoyed very much for her study, not only harvested multiple awards in various art competitions, but also expanded her friendship network. All these kids at Longlong Art Studio are motivated, dedicated and smart students. Teachers are professional and supportive. Every summer, Longlong Art Studio will organize a party to farewell graduating students for colleges. And many alumni may come back for homecoming celebration. Obviously, those senior students appreciated their experience at the studio, and would like to share their experience in study and career planning with younger ones.

Furthermore, Longlong encourages students to participate in social events, from painting show, Asian American culture celebration, to volunteer opportunities. Kids are excited to participate in those activities. As a business owner to run the studio, Longlong is also a generous lady to reward society. She often treats students with delicious foods through various events. During pandemic, Longlong called the donation for medical protection gears, waived tuition for 11 students with financial difficulties. I was one of the first students of the studio along with my brother 10 years ago. Mrs. Longlong has taught us so much over the years. Not only did we learn valuable art skills but her classes taught us discipline and patience. She is an excellent educator who understands her students well and is able to cater her skills to each students needs. In my formative years at the studio she helped me establish a solid foundation in pencil sketching that helped me understand shapes and shadows that would later accelerate my learning in other mediums such as acrylics and oils. Not only that she is an excellent artist herself, and in that regard has always been one of my biggest role models. Furthermore the studios lessons are always interesting with field trips to local museums and outdoor parks, keeping students excited.
