i brought my Stihl 460 into their shop to be serviced after it stopped running due to a bad spark plug. I told the employee behind the counter I needed a full check, fuel system clean out, new plug and filter, etc. all the guy wrote on the ticket was "saw not running" but I figured a pro stihl shop would know what they were doing. I picked up the saw and it stopped running after a cut and a half. scored my piston on the exhaust side (usually due to a vacuum leak) I brought it back in and they tried to tell me the saw just "wore out" because it was from 2008. anybody that knows engines knows this is not how that works. then they said all they did was change the spark plug. But I paid 71$ so they're either thieves or liars. the owner was talked to and agreed to cover the repair. days later I was called back saying I should pick up the saw because they couldn't order parts due to true values bankruptcy (another lie). every time I tried to talk to the owner he kept walking off while talking and being dismissive saying he needed to talk to the shop boss. when I came back after he was suppose to have talked to this shop boss, he told me he would be right back and left me standing in the middle of the store for 20 minutes only to never return. These are about the rudest people I've ever had the displeasure dealing with. their repair shop is a bunch of hacks that don't know what they're doing or dont care enough about other people's property to do their jobs correctly. Any experienced repair shop would have pressure tested the saw to check for vacuum leaks. Never again will I shop here and anybody that cares about their equipment shouldnt either. (I'll add that the second owner Dan was courteous and professional in speaking with me but does not make up for the lack of courteouness and lack of respect his...
Read moreKind courteous helpful friendly very willing to help you. Public restroom available. They sell some snacks including ice cream. I have never had a problem until the management refused to honor my request for a return. I will never ever return there again. Dana's is right across the street and I will frequent there hardware store before I ever ever go to gays True Value Hardware Store. A very very disheartening experience for me after all those years of frequenting their establishment.
Very sad they cannot understand a customer's request. took my lawn tiller rewind coil in to rewind it and they say they lost the part. and now i have to buy a new engine. and btw, i had to buy a new engine as Gay's would not make the repair right.
Very very sad, I could never frequent your...
Read moreGays is the place with the helpful hardware man. .. The staff is friendly and ready to assist. But, it's not the old store. I would look forward to coming to Tunkhannock specifically to walk around Gay's. Now it's really no different than going to a Home Depot. Get your item and go. Gay's always had that home spun atmosphere. A place where you find an odd item you never planned on buying, but you bought it because it was different. Maybe I'm just melancholy. They were the last store that made you feel like you were in Mayberry. I will continue to shop there, they have a great staff, I just miss the...
