Shelton State Community College — Local services in Tuscaloosa

I've been going back and forth with the Cashier's Office today because they are in charge of distributing pell grant refund checks at the *beginning of the semester. It's now March and I have recieved anything because.no one told me until last week that if you have a second term split class that you won't see the check until AFTER that class starts. Even then no one ever answered.my questions until today when I had.to go see the Dean of Students. She wasn't in so they brought in the Financial aid person (should have been done since January). Long story short, that person told me to drop my class since it would be easier for them. I've had nothing but bad experiences at Shelton and it's no wonder that not many people after the CC dont continue their education. Today made me want to drop out on top of other circumstances...

Huge waste of time and money. The only saving grace to this institution is the Fredd Campus. The Martin Campus is not flexible at all, and forget about taking online courses thinking that it will be more flexible. There is much more homework and it is a lot more strict than in person classes. Do not take online courses, they do not care if you have a full time life, you better bend to their will or fail the class. If you try to contact anyone regarding any issues, no one will help; you will simply get a very automated and diplomatic response. Being on the President's and Dean's list means nothing and neither does being in Phi Theta Kappa. I was told C's get degrees, so don't even try...

My wife went through the nursing program. She loved it. She feels like the program really prepared her for her license. I am currently in the HVAC/R program at night. I am glad they have this program at night since I work full time. I feel like the instructors are very knowledgeable. Some of the classes are hybrid and some completely online. That makes it easier for people who work during the day to complete the program. A former state board member told me Shelton State's HVAC program is very good. I wish they had more trades programs at night though. I believe the only other complete program at...
