Our family has been coming here since my kids were little, all three of them are now in their 20's and still love to collect rocks & fossils! When traveling together my Mom & I try to stop in once a year, but it's just not often enough!! Sadly I noticed that there has been a few poor reviews that deal with the owner's attitude towards some customers. I suppose he can come off as being a bit gruff or aloof but if you take the time to engage him in conversation, share your agate, rock or fossil interest and ask questions he really is a very kind and knowledgeable person, in fact he's a well known author on Minnesota Agates, we've got one of his books! And my daughter loves their Cockatoo!! Sometimes I think that today's parents forget that their young children should be closely supervised (plus be respectful), especially in a family owned shop that carries fragile items. If you haven't paid for it yet, you shouldn't allow your child to carry it around. If it's a small rock or fossil well then I know that that isn't a problem because my kids did that all the time, even paid with their own allowance at times. In fact my youngest son bought his first Megalodon Shark's Tooth here and the owner was so helpful and explained everything from the quality of the tooth, the size of the shark on up to it's value!! My son was only 9! They have wonderful displays, also selling pottery and other items hand made by locals. I've gotten a couple of bowls in past years that I use to display some of my large polished semi precious stones. Their prices are very reasonable and competitive with the online Rock & Fossil Market. In fact... One wonderful memory that has always stuck... A few years ago my Mom, my daughter & I were up for the weekend for the Tall Sailing Ships that arrived in Duluth that summer... anyway we lost track of time and raced to Two Harbors for our annual Agate City visit. We got there 10 minutes before they were going to close... we were so apologetic and said we'd be quick... But they insisted it wasn't a problem and to take our time. They didn't have to stay open for us, but they did. They don't know us by name or vis-versa and we're not huge dollar spenders ($50-$200) every time we visit. But they've always been polite & helpful... We were outta there by 5:20 pm carrying a chunk of amethyst the size of an old Minneapolis phone book that weighed 5x that at least! LOL! As well as several other great items! They even gave my daughter a bag of 3 small fossil sharks teeth (for free!) so she could make her own necklace like her brother. This year when the three of us visited back in September we were pleasantly surprised to find out they were having a Rock Show that featured a lot of vendors from around the area! Two hours later we finally dragged ourselves away with several Superior Agates, beautiful rock slices and several fossils! These people are so enthusiastic and even their kids & grandkids are involved! We had so much fun and learned even more about our "State Agate!!" So please don't let the few "bad" reviews deter you from stopping by. It really is a wonderful store with very nice people and a pretty bird.

A fun find from Bob and Nancy's place in Two Harbors. Also bought a neat necklace with a cool stone I didn't have before. They always have some very pretty and cool jems to add to your collection!

Nice store, I've been here before and visited for years. Today was my last time and I have never experienced this kind of ridiculous treatment before in my life. My two daughters and I finished shopping and went up to the register with our merchandise and waited for the owner to help us purchase our items (a fossilized shark's tooth necklace, an agate heart, and an agate marble). I placed our merchandise on the register counter and had my wallet out. We were waiting for about 10 minutes while the store owner sold something to another customer while we were waiting. He brought the item up to the counter (a ring I think) and cut her in line ahead of us to sell her the item. He wouldn't look me in the eye and wouldn't acknowledge me standing there at the counter. He didn't ask me if it was ok if he ring up the lady behind me first or anything, it felt like he was avoiding me. I waited a minute to think about what was happening before I decided to leave the items on the register counter and take my girls and leave the store. I don't know why our business wasn't as good as the woman behind us he sold the ring to, but I will never, ever go back to that store. I'm sorry, Robert, I think is your name? I'm sorry that we were not spending as much as that woman behind us was that you sold the ring to....

I went up to Two Harbors on vacation this summer and met the owner of this most fantastic Rockshop. Even though he knew I was a pawnshop/rock shop owner, still spent a lot of time educating me on his and my own inventory. It was a real pleasure being able to speak to someone who knew so much about a field few really know much about. Did read the review about the multi billionaire Woman who was going to buy her child the store, and being a self-employed store owner for the last 40 years myself I can really feel your pain. Anyway, Thanks for the time spent, the education, and, oh yeah, for writing that wonderful book on Lake Superior Agates. When everything is said and done it’s people like you that make this world Just a little more livable. Thanks...
