When I was a kid 1987 my brother and his friend discovered that they could put things in their pocket and just walk out of stores without paying from them. They had been practicing this little technique at an office supply store called "Tamarack". What an odd selection! In any case they decided that they would go into the store just before it closed and unlock the back door, "as if employees wouldn't check" and come back later to see if it was unlocked. I didn't know of this plan, so on our way back from the local gas station, where we would go play the arcades, we made our way back through the complex that housed the Tamarack store. From a distance I saw two adult figures point and jet around the complex like they were up to something. At that time my brother and friends ran to the back door and gave it a tug. One person exclaimed "Dam it is locked." Just then the two adult figures revealed themselves from behind the corner and one said "What do you mean it is locked?" It was a sting and everyone was busted. The two adults reminded of the characters on the TV series Riptide... they kind of enjoyed busting us like they drew their inspiration from the show. At the time it came off as annoying. They held us in their office until the police showed... we got cuffed and put in the back of police cars.... at the age of 10 and 11 and taken to this Municipal building. Keep in mind we are all around the age of 10 and 11 and our parents are not present and this is happening. Guilty or to... this might not be the right thing to be do. Have cuffed for 4 hours and confessions are exhausted from everyone, our parents are contacted to pick us up. Merchandise was recovered.... because it was office supplies... what kid really...
Read moreThis is by far the strictest municipal court by far, plus the police officers here will look for any way to give you a citation. I came here a month ago to get a cup off coffee on a Saturday morning to do a small side job in New Braunfels. On my way back to the freeway I was pulled over by an officer who was hidden in some bushes. At 1st I thought he was trying to pass me, because I look at my speedometer and it says 30 mph and the speed limit throughout the city is 20 mph. This is a big street with five lanes. 2 on each side plus a middle turning lane. I explained that I was not aware that the speed limit on these areas are 20 because I'm not from the area and I'm just trying to get back on the highway and I would slow it down. The officer said ok and gave me a ticket anyway. I then came to court on the right day but in the afternoon because of work and was given another 250 dollar citation for failure to appear. They did not even let me do defensive driving because they said I failed to appear. I'm never ever coming to this town again and I suggest anyone who doesn't want to be targeted for a ticket to stay away. If your court date is coming up get there 2 hours early because they can give you a failure to appear on top of your ticket. Horrible town...
Read moreSorry I can't give less than one star. The absolute worst place. They are so corrupt as to shake down anyone that is unfortunate enough to break the law in their city. With the gestapo tactics and kangaroo court system that will find everyone guilty of something just to squeeze money out of the people they are "protecting" at every turn they are truly the opposite of public servants. Even if you are completely innocent and show up to court you can't plead your case without coming back. When you come back if you aren't at the court an hour before they open to do all the demeaning, ridiculous check-in process you are turned away and a 'failure to appear' citation is entered against you, and a warrant for your arrest is put out. At least they have the common decency to not arrest you at the courthouse on the same day of your court date 2 hours before you are to appear before the court. This court system will hopefully be broken up by the RICO Act and the lot of them thrown in federal prison for...
