I have a very long history with Meijer as a company, an ex-employee (Cashier from 2016-2020), and shopper. For a while I stopped shopping here because the other customers were getting really out of hand, people constantly opening products as they shopped, one time a guy, drunk and eating olives by hand and walking around picking up things and putting them back (now greasy af). That era seems to have passed thankfully, hopefully with in-store policies that at least allow employees a way to politely speak up when they see stuff like this... because it should never happen.
They also used to be the one store that didn't take EBT for food delivery pickup. This limited how much our family could use the store, with some of us immunocompromised and with no other way to purchase groceries. Meijer NOW does accept EBT for pickup, and so we've been using it for our primary shopping -- doing our best to shop at companies HQ'd in Michigan, and hopefully buying as much within the state to reduce the hidden transportation pollution involved in buying products from further than anyone should really ever consider. That's a round about way of saying HEY MEIJER - PLEASE ADD MORE MICHIGAN COMPANIES TO YOUR VARIETIES! BRING BACK BETTER MADE SNACKS!
Nebulous complaints aside, this pickup experience was great - the selection wasn't too limited by out of stock items (We ordered $135 of groceries, but got $122). The Meijer app and website are all working well these days for us and like i said earlier the ability to use EBT for pickup deliveries is really benefitting families like ours, where immunocompromised and credit-limited members can still safely shop from home. The app does a good job of saying beforehand that something is out of stock during your shop, but not always so great at offering alternatives -- a few weeks ago we were hoping to get some of the ground beef on sale at $3.49/lb, and while the app claimed it was in stock and my order was entered overnight before the store was even open, by the time I picked it up somehow the 2 lb's of beef ($7) had not been available for our order, and the suggested replacement was two $20 family packs instead. Uh, we have a bit of a small freezer and limited budget, no thanks! That became a quest where we had to ask a neighbor to go to the store for us and look to see what they had on the shelves, two other days before they found some.
TL;DR - Meijer's prices are still lower than the competition for many items, we do miss some of our favorite local varieties and really hope they come back (so we can stop going to Kroger and WalMart for 5 items each), the store is still being redone so it could just be a matter of time before these issues are solved. For the moment though, i'm happy to be a Meijer shopper and the company, and this store in particular, have improved over...
Read moreI moved into Belleville area in May, so naturally I transferred all of my Prescriptions to my local Meijer's Pharmacy since I had all of them with the Meijer's Pharmacy near my old Residence & I've been extremely dissapointed with Belleville location, especially their pharmacy!! If their extremely poor customer service & rudeness continues, I will have no other choice but to move all of my Prescriptions to a different Pharmacy. One thing that really upsets me is that instead of filling Prescriptions upon receipt of E-scripts from doctors as should be done, they wait for the Patient\customer to call the Pharmacy to request them to be filled. This causes problems constantly because I'm Disabled & need staff to bring me to Meijer's for my Prescriptions or other needs in the store, & timing is crucial. Regarding the remainder of the store, I find the clothing & other item excluding the Grocery Department to have a good selection & have found assistance quickly when needed & I would rate this location to be equal to other locations I've used. However their Grocery Department is inadequate in many ways to the 5 other Meijer's that I've dealt with over the past twenty years. Their shelves are frequently empty so selection is therefore poorer then other locations I've used, with a long wait to locate any staff to request help. Their bathroom was dirty on two of the three times I had to use them & when you go to check out there always is a long wait in self-check out lanes & regular check out lanes are minimal with extremely long lines.
Due to all of this, I feel its time to look into other options for my Pharmacy & Grocery...
Read moreIt takes a lot for me to give a business a one star, especially one I have been a patron of for years. Unfortunately, today the Belleville Michigan Meijer lost my business. I stopped in on Friday (8.30.24), very last minute, when I found out I was going to need an air mattress. I was in a hurry, so I grabbed one I thought would suffice and went back home. Only to find out after it was too late that the air mattress I bought did not have an air pump and was therefore unusable. This location refused to allow me to return the air mattress simply because the box have been opened. I've worked in customer service for 26 years and know that there is a loophole in every system. As a customer service manager, I have personally had to be the person to utilize those loopholes. Meijer lost my business today because they refused to do anything to help me even though I had the receipt. Even when I asked to swap the air mattress for a store gift card, I was still told that the mattress couldn't be returned. Having worked in customer service for as long as I have, I'm well aware of the fact that there are people that abuse the system by returning things after using them. However, the loopholes are there for those of us who are honest customers. I will be buying my groceries elsewhere going forward because of their unwillingness to do anything that accounts for the humanity of their customers. We're all prone to make mistakes here and there and shouldn't have to suffer just because of the bad apples that...
