The Hound Playground — Local services in Vandalia

I just had my first experience with The Hound Playground and am very disheartened. The weekend before I dropped my beloved fur baby off to stay while I was out of town I went as requested to fill out the paperwork and give them her shot records. This is the very first time that I have ever been without my pup for more than a day so I was very nervous. I got her all signed up and that following Wednesday had a friend drop her off so I could go. They began asking my friend questions when she was dropped off so she called me and I called them. Confirming that I provided them with everything they needed. I was recommended to them by another friend because they were more affordable. That should have been my first clue. $24/ day for boarding is cheap!! When I went to pick her up my bill was $185 and change. I asked what the extra charges were for and he got angry with me stating that she was in doggie daycare everyday and that is an additional $12/ day. Not I nor my paperwork asked for additional charges to be accepted. As I told him that, he told me that his staff has been there for years and would not have made such an oversight. He then told me that he would refund it but my dog could NEVER come back. Now that I of course evaluated my dog she has cuts scrapes on her nose, neck and ears. I don’t have kids! This is my child and I feel like after not seeing her for a week, I was the one robbed. Especially of my first moments of joy after not seeing her...

I'm new to having a dog as a companion. The owner quickly identified peppers area of improvement. So far it's working.the staff is friendly and professional. I will continue to take pepper for interaction with other dogs. Still taking pepper to the hound playground. It's a good environment for socializing your dog. She is warming up to more people which is one of our goals. I will continue to take her at this facility. Have spoken to John the owner about specifics about behavior my pet is displaying. First time customer, and my dogs second boarding experience in nine years. Full disclosure, my sibling knows them personally although they didn't figure that out initially. Staff was as genuinely friendly as you can be. On pickup I was fully expecting the 1000-yard-stare associated with her first boarding experience at an AKC registered kennel, but instead I got a happy camper and the peace of mind that she'll be cared for and having a good time when I can't bring her with me.
