A few weeks ago, I discovered One Hot Cookie & Ice Cream right in my neighborhood and couldn’t wait to try their shakes. Before heading over, I gave them a call to see if they could make a simple chocolate malt shake. The man who answered assured me it wouldn’t be a problem.
When I arrived, I ordered a small, 16-ounce shake—only to be shocked when the owner rang it up at over $14. For a small shake?!? I was stunned and asked why it was so expensive. He explained they charge that much because they use hand-scooped Hershey’s ice cream, which I didn't know was anything special. However, plenty of other places (like Detwilers) also use premium hand-scooped ice cream and only charge around $6 to $8. Anything more seems excessive.
Unsure of what else to do, I paid and left, hoping the shake would at least taste amazing. Sadly, it turned out to be less than mediocre. I’ve had much better shakes at Detwilers, Soda Fountain, and many other shops in the area for half the price. Feeling ripped off, I called to complain. After a brief argument, the owner agreed to refund my money, so I returned the shake and will not be going back. Buyer beware, especially before you buy a shake from...
Read moreStopped into 1 Hot Cookie and Ice Cream last night after dinner at Thai Hot, one of our favorite restaurants next door. This was our first visit and it was most satisfying. The shop is reminiscent of the ice cream places from yesteryear with excellent quality and friendly service. The place is bright and clean and the decor is whimsical and inviting. I enjoyed a cookie and ice cream sundae of which there are many possibilities due to 32 flavors of Hershey’s ice cream and a variety of freshly baked cookies that leave you pondering what you’ll have since they all look gorgeous. I made mine a chocolate chunk and walnut cookie with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream with a cherry. My wife chose the apple pie cookie with no ice cream. We were both amazed by the delicious, cinnamon infused, homemade apple pie filling at the center of this flaky, buttery cookie. I must try this one with ice cream the next time. No doubt we’ll be back. It’s great to know 1 Hot Cookie and Ice Cream is close...
Read moreI saw this place listed on my clover app and it looked good so we went after dinner on Sunday. When someone in front of us opened the door, I knew it was going to be trouble! The smell of freshly cooked cookies wafted out, and I was like a cartoon character, floating in being led by my nose.
The two guys who run the place told us they’ve only been in business there since December, but they have found an amazing niche market. Their cookies are baked fresh and they are not just cookies. They are works of art. We had campfire cookies which were if a s’more and a cookie got married and had a huge child that would be this cookie. I think possibly the best cookie I have ever had, and I have quite the sweet tooth. We chose to have cookie sundaes, so they pile ice cream on top of it and whipped cream and cherries, and a topping of our choice. Just writing this review makes me want to drive by there again...
