My husband and I scheduled two 110 minute massages, which I specified as deep tissue when making the appointment. We are currently staying at the Kimpton hotel which is attached to the spa for our 10 year anniversary getaway. We were scheduled to have the massages yesterday.
When I went down to the spa, the very rude and pretentious front staff did not have any price menus so that I could look at additional treatments I may have liked to get during our stay. I was told curtly I would need to look online. I asked who our massage therapists would be for that afternoon and was given two names.
When I went onto the website later I noticed that both massage therapists were brand new; one has just graduated (and prefers aromatherapy and stretching) and the other didn’t even have a bio yet.
I would expect this from a place like Massage Envy, or some other entry-level business-not a high-end spa where we were easily going to be paying 600+ dollars for our two massages.
The other therapists had more extensive training, to include deep tissue massage. Our therapist were at the bottom of the page.
I have had many, many massages in my lifetime. I know what an art it is, and how long it takes to become proficient in the discipline - particularly with deep tissue.
When I called the office to express our concern, and ask for different, more experienced therapists, I was treated very rudely. We offered to come in on a different day during our vacation when more experienced therapists were available.
There was no way around it - no solving the problem or even recognizing it. Oh, and they wanted their money.
I was told we would be charged $100 to cancel the appointments.
Okay, if we were canceling as a result of our inability to make the appointment, I would understand that completely.
However, the fact of the matter is, we were forced to cancel because of their bait and switch tactic. Better to pay $100 than $600 (after tax and gratuities) for a nearly 2 hours beginner’s level massage.
You can’t promote yourself as a high-end spa, charge exorbitant prices, then provide recent graduates to the consumer. This is unethical.
If you’re planning to stay at the Kimpton property because of the spa, like we did, I would...

Services I experienced thus far -Eyebrow tweeze / trim / henna hybrid tint -Deep tissue massage -Reflexology -Arnica oil add on
Amy completed my eyebrow services and I was so satisfied with her work. She took her time to answer all my questions regarding brow shape, type of tint used, and maintenance. This particular service was 15 minutes or less. It was my first time applying henna brows and it’s safe to say I will be doing it again. Very happy with the outcome. Cheerful, knowledgable lady that works her makeover magic! She did them so well that my mother received the same services and now we both look like superstars!
Casandra was my masseuse and she was excellent! For me, the area of concentration were shoulders, neck, and lower left side on hips). She was able to adjust light or deep pressure throughout the massage. She is patient, kind, and very skillful. Gentle touch. If you want more pressure she will use her forearm, which for me felt great!
I’ve had two major foot surgeries since the beginning of 2025. My foot has gone through extensive surgical work and stress. (I reached out to my doctor beforehand for clearance). Casandra suggested reflexology for lymphatic drainage (gentle touch) and applied the arnica oil to help with swelling, pain, and inflammation. She was very carful and explained the benefits of this service throughly. My foot has felt a lot better. Please look no further and come see Casandra and the rest of the White Orchid for all your spa needs!

Read moreI had a CoolSculpting procedure done here. The CoolSculpting devices weren't placed in the area I wanted treated. Because the area I wanted treated is my upper backside, I didn't know until I got home and took pictures. There's no mirrors in the treatment room and there's no robes to undress. I was just asked to roll my pants down so she could do markings for the devices. I was at the mercy of the technician and I'd mistakenly trusted that.
I called White Orchid and was told to wait 8 weeks for my follow up appointment then they'd discuss it with me. At the follow up appointment, I mentioned my concerns. The technician said she couldn't have treated the area I wanted done anyway because it'd create a "shark bite effect." I told her if I'd known that then I wouldn't have spent $1,200 to have it done.
I was told a manager from White Orchid would call me the following day because she was off on Monday's, which is when I had my follow-up. I waited two days without a call from anyone so I called them. I was told they knew nothing about it. Someone called me the day after that. She said she discussed it with another manager, and the owner, and they wouldn't refund the $1,200.
I'm a single Mom. This was the one single thing I saved up for, for myself. They willingly knew the area I wanted treated wasn't treated (or even treatable) and they had no qualms about taking my hard earned money and not returning it for...
