A little #VeroBeach history found at the Driftwood Resort! I also ate dinner at the Ocean Grill built by Waldo as well. See what that was like in my full vlog. #vero #floridahistory #florida #floridatravel #CapCut

What a great place for a vacation. The Driftwood pretty much has it all, beginning with it's perfect location, on the beach at Vero Beach, all the way down to both pools and the very nice bar/restaurant. It's a big place, with multiple buildings, offering studio units, one-bedroom places and even some two-bedroom units, along with small, individual cottages. Though we only saw the one-bedroom unit in which we stayed, we were pleased with it. Small, but nice. The kitchenette is probably the tiniest I've seen with a sink, dishwasher, oven and microwave. But, you're on vacation! You're not supposed to be cooking, right? The living room furniture was sturdy though not particularly comfortable. We didn't unfold the sleeper sofa I don't know if it's as cozy as every other sleeper sofa in the world. It might be the exception. It could happen. The mattress in the bedroom however was excellent as were the pillows. The bathrooms (two of them) were of a decent size and functional, so two thumbs-up there. It's called the Historic Driftwood for a reason though. It's historic. As in old and it shows signs of its age. Renovation is most likely an on-going operation due to the harsh environment of the dang ocean on their doorstep and they do a pretty good job of keeping up with it all. And we also have to keep in mind that it's whole claim to fame is the Driftwood aspect of the resort, so it's supposed to be a little more rustic than the usual, more sterile places. Not all of the buildings are that old, but many of them are, so be prepared for quaint details, like an actual key for your room instead of the more common card. The bar and restaurant are both excellent and we ate/drank there more than a couple times during our weeklong stay. The drinks at the bar were generous, served with a smile and comparably priced. You can't go wrong there. The menu had a good variety and the quality of the food was excellent! There's ample outdoor seating reserved for those ordering food that's well shaded on most days, though the umbrellas have to come down when its windy. Oh. And then there's the beach. Like, right there. Complete with sand, seaweed and the Atlantic Freakin' Ocean. 24/7, at no extra charge. Is that cool or what? Bottom line: we loved it and can't wait to go back. Go. I Triple Dog Dare you not to like it. (Yes. I pulled the TDD card and I'm not sorry.)

Update - Sept 2025 - The kitchen and vanity area have been upgraded with granite countertops and more drawer space. I enjoy the laid-back atmosphere. If you want to be casual and hang out barefoot in your beachwear, that's completely fine. If you want to get dressed up for dinner or cocktails, you've got lots of options within walking distance. ----- Great rustic, historical, "old Florida" feel right on the ocean - 2 pools, a variety of outdoor spaces (including gas grills) for dining, hanging out, or storm watching. Interesting wrought iron pieces, ship bells, tiles, and other random stuff around the property to check out too. As a timeshare owner I'm a bit biased, but The Driftwood is a great place to relax, enjoy the beach, and do as much or as little as you want. The studios w/full kitchens are great if you have special dietary needs or just want to save on eating out. Great place to bring kids with Humiston Park's playground next door. Rent beach equipment from Shark Bait for very reasonable prices. We always rent chairs & an umbrella when we fly down. You can also bring your own gear. Historical walking ghost tours from Indian River Hauntings fill you in on Vero Beach's past from the Ais people thu modern times. I've done the tour twice. Lots of fun with some kewl tech gadgets. Waldo's restaurant has beautiful views for outdoor dining and a cozy indoor dining room. The maintenance crew, housekeeping staff and nighttime security guards have all been great over the years.

i'm hard pressed to really call this place a resort. it more like a historically iconic hotel, on the beach, that has kept most of it's laid back, dive-y charm, then added 2 more modern buildings on the back side that don't reflect the beachy lifestyle look. we were in one of the original buildings, our room faced a parking lot which is shared with waldo's restaurant. parking can be difficult to find a spot near your room and they encourage you to park in the back lot and walk around to your rooms, which sucks when you're trying to unload or load your car when coming or going. many of the employees park in this tiny lot and tie up space for most of the day, seen a lot of restaurant patrons leave their cars in the lot overnight, without a dash pass identifying you as a hotel guest. ||our room was tiny & weirdly laid out....teeny tiny kitchen without a dishwasher, so i had to put all the dishes, glasses & silverware in the sink, boil water and rewash everything because i don't know who washed the dishes before us & what their hygiene habits are. only 1 tv in the living room, which you can't see from the "bedroom" which is actually a small room with sliding panel doors, THAT DON'T WORK, for privacy if needed. the linens, bed & pillows were all clean, soft and comfortable. the amount of broken closet doors, tiles, lamps is crazy. i get the whole dive charm that they want to display, but for pete's sake, at least get a handy man in there to fix all the broken crap. if you are a stickler for perfection & posh details, THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR YOU. if you can dig that lazy, laid back, dumpy divey charm, then come here. we never used the pools. the 1 pool was attached to the restaurant and all you can smell is cigarettes and listen to loud drunks & music, the other pool called "the quiet pool" was over by the newer buildings, never saw it. we don't come to the beach to swim in a pool. ||front desk people are so laid back & cool. this is the first time a hotel didn't ask for a credit card to be put on file for incidentals, they just said "we trust you". AND i was really surprised & chuckled at the fact that our room keys were actual metal keys & not key cards. ||they do push the "rustic charm" to the limit, but as long as i have a comfortable bed, a place to shower, sht & shave, i'm good, not on vacay to hang out in a hotel room all day, i'm there to experience the area. ||**the only complaint i have is that this place considers itself a NON SMOKING RESORT, but puts ashtrays on all the tables outside of the rooms, so you're always walking through the stink of cigarettes someplace on...

The Driftwood Resort Inn and Resort 3150 Ocean Drive, Vero Beach, Florida 32963 I had booked the room for 2 weeks, 6 months in advance; the sales person (Lynn) did not give me the correct facts on many questions that I asked before I booked it. She gave the room rate, but of course did not give you the taxes or resort fee. I totally understood the tax, 11% but the resort fee, for what. She told me there was an elevator to our room, but ended up not to our rooms. Laundry facility one with 2 washers and 2 dryers. She booked us two rooms one for each week and was told they both were on the beach which was not true. One on the beach, one on the pool. I asked if we would have a problem with parking and if there was a cost for the parking, she stated no charge for parking and we have no issues with parking and both vehicles could park on our property not true. We had two vehicle’s and requested two spots at check in. We had to park on the street and go move one vehicle every two hours. We had to move to another room, because she did not follow-up on reserving the 2nd room properly, we had to stay on the property until the other people checked out, and the room was cleaned. They would help us move it should only be a couple of hours, we were on vacation and we had to stay on the property from 8am till 4 pm. Then we had to move ourselves. Both rooms were dirty, the grounds were dirty, the restaurant was very dirty. Items did not work in the room. I spoke to the manager twice (Amy) and very unprofessional. Furnishings very old, Cleanliness very dirty, overpriced, maintenance in units needs repair. Very noisy good luck with sleeping. Swimming pool no diving, kids diving all day, security walked through wanted to see your bracelet, but that was it, you can bring glass at the pool, lighting and thunder and let the children with no supervision still in the pool. This place has to be an insurance nightmare with what they let go on. We were told we would have coffee in the room, just the coffee pot and I was told there would be salt, pepper, toilet paper, Kleenex, etc. what you would normal get in a Condo or Hotel room just the basics for a condo, we had to buy are own when we got there. Over $4,405.00 for this place. After talking with people in the surrounding areas, everyone said it really has gone downhill. Not impressed. You need new management. So sad even the housekeepers, maintenance people, etc., told us how sorry they were with what we went through, I guess the manager thought it was important to discuss...
