Food Lion — Local services in Virginia Beach

Was there today 1/22/21. As I was walking in, a homeless man asked for food. NOT MONEY! He wasn't bothering anyone. He was just sitting there. I go and do my shopping. Grabbed him a few things. Something that can last a couple days. 2 lunchables, a big bag of food lion nacho chips, a 2 liter of orange soda, a little bottle of fairlife milk, a couple little cooked boneless chicken wings. Spent like $8.00 on food for him. Not much but would have helped him.

I was in there for less than an hour. I go to checkout. Asked them to bag the food separately. Told them its for the homeless man outside. I go outside, and he's gone. Look around and couldn't find him. I go back inside and ask the same lady that checked me out, if I could leave the food there for him, incase he returns. She directed me to the manager. I believe his name is Ryan or Brian. I told him about the food I had bought the gentleman that was outside. If I could just leave it and if he doesn't return to give to someone else who might need some food. He proceeded to tell me that he had told him leave because another customer complained cause he was asking for food. I said, "yeah, that's what homeless people do ".

I got a little upset and was leaving, again. As I was heading to my car, 2 police in suvs pull up. I asked the first one if he seen a black homeless man. He tells me, thats the man I'm looking for. 🤬🤬

What??? Because he asked people for food?? Cop said something about he can't do that. So it takes 2 police officers to stop a man asking for food. He didn't ask for money or beer. He asked for food!

In a time where kindness is needed. We have the cops called. And shame on the customer who complained. So many people are in need right now. And you see a homeless person as a nuisance and eye sore. Instead of being a compassionate human being. Or, just do what most people do, ignore them. Smfh.

I'm disgusted with the manager and the customer. Hope you are never put in that position where you have to ask a stranger for something...

I was in the store last night and the lady looked at me when I was walking toward the cash register (not even hers the one beside her) but she thought I was walking to her register and she made it clear that her register was closed and that she was helping the last person. Her light was off so I already figured she was on the last customer but as I was finishing up at the register I was at a lady walked up and she smiled at her and said O my light is off but come on I don't mind taking you RUDE and RACIST ! it's sad that this world only looks at racism one way. it was very clear that she did not want to help us but as soon as the African American women walked up she all of sudden wasn't closed anymore. I normally don't let things get to me like this but this was very apparent what was happening and it never gets pointed out when its the other way around. RACIST IS RACIST sorry will NEVER GO BACK...

Its okay, it lacks some brands and the strawberries are always mixed half old and gross with decent and edable so dont bother searching for a good batch, it doesnt exist. Also they used to have packs of 36 k cups community coffee breakfast blend, we moved here in november 2016, and its now june almost july of 2017 and i have never seen the 36 k cup packs since when we first moved here and it was our first visit to this store, after that i have never seen them and i go twice a week, so its not like someone came and bought out all the 36 k cups every month, they just stopped ordering them, i guess not enough people go for the 36 packs? But they do have coupons on almost every box of k cups and cereal boxes. Also coupons come often at check out and its for actual stuff you often buy so thats good. But my biggest issue are the strawberries...like...
