First time stay. POSITIVES: location, warm and clean water in the pool, comfortable pool hours, some of the staff at front desk we interacted were very nice. NEGATIVES: Some reviewers mentioned a recent renovation but we didn't see any sign of it. Everything looked dated and tired. Cleanliness was VERY questionable (I wiped all the surfaces again and the cloth was dirty and grey) found some tag's wires and trash on the floor. Linens were looking very worn, lost their white color and ready for "retirement", the same goes to bathroom towels. Shower head was loosely hanging down and you couldn't direct the flow of water, the pressure was weak and the temperature not hot enough. All the pillows were VERY uncomfortable so we didn't have a good night sleep. The front desk person checking us in never acknowledged our HHonors Dimond status and didn't provide the information about our benefits in this brand of Hilton (not even talking about providing the benefits themselves). No water or "famous warm cookies" was offered at check in time (like at other DTrees we've stayed, though later, when we interacted with the nicer people of FD, and ASKED about it... it turned out that of course it's available, and we received 2 bottles of water and 2 rock hard "cookies" that have seen better times long ago). When asked about breakfast she told us it will be the "packaged (pandemic) one" and OH BOY!.. what a soiled, used, stained and torn in some places package full of unappealing junk food IT WAS! And to receive this "treasure" my husband had to inform the kitchen staff about it because they were really surprised at first, and asked "What breakfast"?.. Now, if you think that coffee or tea is ready for you to take in the room you are wrong, oh no, it's DO IT YOURSELF in the room project. And all this "pleasure" of staying here costs you just... $120/night. If they think that HH members like THESE kind of benefits they are totally wrong, so needless to say that was the first and the last stay in this hotel and for a future we'll spend our money in better places then this.
P.S. This part of the review was written after reading "the response" of the General Manager John Zirkle. Now it's clear for us WHY the staff of this hotel works the way they do. The problems start with the manager who could care less about problems time and again mentioned by reviewers. I am not the only one mentioned about these issues, I've read about those in many reviews of this place and that's what stopped me for years of staying here. And finally when I did try to stay (hoping for a different outcome) I've ran into the same problems that were described by others for a long time. So, where is your "hard work" for improvement Mr. John Zirkle?.. Surprised how this kind of management can survive...
Read moreI stayed here for the Reach the Beach Cheerleading Competition with the other team parents and our teams and coaches. The hotel is very close to the convention center (within walking distance) which is convenient if that is what you are in the area for.
The hotel itself had more than enough parking although most of the parking is very far away from the door so if there is bad weather or you need assistance you should plan for that.
Check in: Check in was ok except for the fact that there was only one person checking in. I don't think normally this would be an issue but the fact that a larger than average number of people were checking in (teams, coaches, parents, some type of reunion group) it made check in extremely slow and the lobby was packed with people.
The room: The room I had was very nice. I was on the fifth floor. The room was clean. I had a fridge and coffee maker and the TV was nice with an extensive channel selection. The bathroom was small but nice and the toiletry selection was good. The walls weren't thin so I couldn't hear my neighbors even though there were a lot of young children in all the rooms.
Extras: I didn't go to the restaurant (access from outside the hotel or from inside the lobby) but I did order room service. I got the salmon with asparagus and mash and a salad. IT was nasty. The fish was good. The salad would have been good but it was so soggy like they had pre-made it and it had been sitting for a long time. Even the croutons were very soggy. The lettuce was also very brown in some spots. The mash was ok but cold and the asparagus was not seasoned and rubbery.
I took some of the teams to the pool. It is not a large pool so when several groups are using it at once it gets crowded quickly and you may not get a chair but the kids enjoyed it and the water wasn't freezing cold.
Issues/Concerns: There was only one hiccup the entire time. ON the first night we discovered dried blood on one of the sheets in one of the team rooms. We called down to the front desk but nobody came until the next day when housekeeping made their regular rounds. At that time we also discovered there was actually blood on the mattress as well. WHich means some of the kids slept on a bloody mattress (we had stripped the sheets and blankets off). The hotel quickly processed the room again and also switched us to another room that was also processed as we watched. I am not sure what the deal was but there were no other issues in any of...
Read moreDon’t let the name fool you. This is a Hampton Inn disguised as a Doubletree. I was in town for business and I arrived at 7:30pm and was not greeted initially as the front desk attendant was elsewhere. When he arrived he promptly checked me in however, when I asked about a diamond upgrade I was immediately told they were sold out (parking lot was 50% full) and that the only room he could put me in was on the 3rd floor. I also did not receive any water or cookies at check in which is customary but I did ask for them and he gave me 1 bottle of water and a cookie.
I went to my room to get settled in and the room seems okay at first except for the odor from the carpet (dog smell maybe?). Then I realized I was put in a room right next to the hotel’s HVAC systems. I’ve added a picture with the view from my room. The noise from these systems were a bit loud throughout the night as you can imagine. Certainly not a “diamond level” room. The next morning I used the hotel gym which was a decent gym. My only complaint was that there were several spiders in the corner of the gym near the free weights. I think the area could use a little pest control.
Once I arrived back into my room to shower I noticed my bathroom ceiling was yellowing and looked like there was some water damage (note photo attached). To make matters worse, I didn’t have any hot water! I called the front desk who said they’d notify engineering and in the meantime I needed to leave the water running on full hot so they could inspect the boiler. 20 minutes later I had no hot water but I was in a hurry so I elected to take a cold shower. I’m unsure if this issue was resolved as I had to check out shortly after.
Overall, I’ve been a diamond member for nearly a decade and can confidently say this was one of the worst Hilton properties I’ve ever stayed in. I’m also not one to get upset about not getting an upgraded room but I am confident the property was not sold out on a Wednesday night with very little lobby and restaurant activity in the hotel. I also had an elevator instantly during my stay which is another indicator that the hotel wasn’t so busy. I’m positive the gentleman who checked me in just didn’t want to move my room because I was checking in later...
