Collectors Choice — Local services in Visalia

Some backstory. I have only been to this shop 4 or 5 times. I feel theyre overpriced and dont regulate given the condition of certain books, but maybe (i stress maybe) sometimes you can get a deal. Ive traded a few collections of books in for store credit and thats what kept me coming back. One of the employees is also a good guy and loves comics too. Fast foward. I called in to ask about the sales going on for Black Friday. He straight up told me there was 30% off of trades and back issues. I walked in and asked him again to his face to double check, and he told me there was no sales on comics going on. Funny. So I say to myself "maybe he changed his mind". But not even 5 minutes later, another guy walks in and asks if there was a sale on this trade one paperback he was holding and the owner said yes, 30%... I have no clue if I was singled out for a reason, but that was very odd to me. I also felt the owner was being short with me and had an attitude. Maybe it's because he's tired of me trading in cheaper books and taking down wall books with the credit. Maybe he didn't like me. Or maybe i was taking too long for them so they could leave and close early. I have no clue. But I felt singled out and not welcome after this experience and it will now be the last time I...

The only thing I don't like is the price tags on some books that are not keys. I mean I get that we're in tough times but why put higher price tags on books that are not big or known keys? I get that Flash and Shazam are more popular, but I still dont understand why Flash 123 would be more than $5 even with Mr. Frost. I am grateful that I found some of these overall. Just something to consider....

NEW I returned to the store today to find books I was looking for but unfortunately I am disappointed in how this store conducts business. The prices on these books are ridiculous. They have modern books that come out weeks ago above cover price. Batman Beyond and The Batman titles just had a recent issue and they're selling them for a dollar more( 3.99 selling for 4.99, 4.99 selling for 5.99). Even the Batman Beyond series from 2015 issues are cover priced at 2.99 but the store is selling for 4.99, 2 dollars more. IF the store is doing business like this. I will not be shopping here again. I understand selling keys but if you are selling books at a higher price just because a rumor is going around then you better hope your customers are happy with that. I hope this reaches an owner or manager to make adjustments....

Great shop, lots of back issues to look through. People are super engaged and polite, making great recommendations. Definitely worth the drive or stop when in town.

Update:. Definitely a Marvel/DC shop. All of those sections are full and organized. Independent labels are a hot mess: unorganized and in several places. Lots of stock underneath that could be put out, so it seems. Maybe hire the kid hanging out in the shop to organize the Indy titles, if nobody else will? Been in twice or different days and that kid is always there...telling the same stories. (Staff is nice and listens away)

If you come, have plenty of time. There are TONS of comics here. You just may have to dig a bit. Still way more organized than some larger shops...
