Final update - Chris helped facilitate the updated information to underwriting about our case to reinstate our policy. I appreciate his help in this.
I have updated to add - after the challenges with even initially filing the claim for storm-related damage (the only claim we’ve ever filed with them), Farm Bureau issued a non-renewal based on Chris Slack telling them that we weren’t in compliance with his recommendation to remove the remaining branches (he told us he told them this when we called to ask about the non-renewal), even though the remaining branches were removed within 10 days (the tree was capped), along with us issuing a certified letter to the neighbor whose tree caused the issue, and having spent about $5k in previous years to have overhanging branches and a tree on our property removed to try to prevent any incidents. I will be reporting this to the NC Dept of Insurance, but it’s important for anyone considering Farm Bureau as insurance to know as well. Like I said originally, as long as you don’t need to use the insurance, it’s fine.
The insurance is fine - as long as you don’t need it. We recently needed information about damage that was done to our property in the storm, and our agent, James was less than helpful. Getting our claim filed took more than a full business day and having to talk to him multiple times before it was done. Additionally, the information he shared about what he believed our loss of use insurance may cover was wrong and said that was a question for an adjuster - except that in order to get that information, we needed to have the claim already filed! He did not follow up quickly or with clear communication and asked multiple times if the cost was going to exceed the deductible, coming across as they he was deterring us from even filing. We had property damage 5 years ago from the same neighbor’s tree and did not have these issues with All State at all. If you need to ever use your insurance, I would not recommend...

She got all of my info and quickly made the coverage changes. I received follow-up emails quickly. I just love dealing with the local office and receiving personal service. That is too hard to get these days with the big national insurance companies. They have a great thing going there and I hope they stick with it!!
(ORIGINAL Below) It was time to shop around for new auto, home and umbrella policies after my old insurance company continued to raise premiums too high. I found NC Farm Bureau after some research. I easily made an office appointment with Chris Slack. We went through my old policies and he made some recommendations. All very thorough and thoughtful. I purchased 3 new policies with a little better coverage and still saved hundreds in annual premiums from my old policies which were soon to expire. I hope I never have a claim, but I'm trusting if I do, Farm Bureau Insurance will be there. So far, they have been...
Read moreGoing through hardship recently, and most interactions I've had with the team haven't been great outside of the front office. My insurance adjuster refuses to give me a callback or even acknowledges that he has received my messages despite repeated requests from other staff members to contact me. Other interactions include a lack of urgency and consideration--providing me what might be the minimum guidance or information I need regarding a claim, or just genuinely demonstrating they care about their customers.
I had one surprising interaction with a staff member, and I hope she doesn't mind me mentioning her here--Cynthia, that actually went out of their way to give me some piece of mind when I was starting to panic (without even asking them to go out of their way), and I think the company would definitely benefit from modeling that kind of attitude...
