After several years of searching I’ve found my new salon!! I am very impressed with Salt Hair and their stylists. I had my first appointment today at 9:15a. My stylist had a family emergency that morning and wasn’t going to make it (she called in as I was checking in). 2 minutes later the receptionist told me that my stylist wouldn’t make it but that Elli (I found out later that she’s THE OWNER) was coming in, in about 15-20 minutes to fill-in. She offered me money for coffee or breakfast (I didn’t accept it, life happens) and she apologized for the inconvenience. I grabbed some Starbucks and Elli was there when I returned. She was delightful, quick and did a beautiful blonde (surprisingly hard to find in Raleigh). PLUS since it’s Mother’s Day weekend they gave all of their customers a little bouquet of flowers. It was a very thoughtful touch that perfectly encompasses a great customer service experience. The cost? $170 highlight, cut and style (before tip and products).

Not happy with my hair at all. I should start by saying the stylist was nice enough, however, my hair does not look anything like I had requested. I had requested a balayage with mushroom brown tones and I got blonde/gray highlights. Most of the highlights are not blended to the root either, which is the most frustrating of all. When I pull my hair up, it looks like chunky stripes. The stylist said to wait 2 days to wash my hair so that the coloring would set, which I did. And after the ONE wash, and with my hair in it's natural wavy state, that's when I started to notice all these issues. Will now need to find somewhere else ASAP to fix this mess. Side note, the shoulders of my shirt were soaked when I had left from the wash. I kind of let it go in the moment, but I feel like people should know what kind of service they're getting if they're going to this salon. Not great hair and also needing a change of clothes.

We recently relocated from Chicago and I was planning on going back every six weeks to my hair guy becuse I was so scared to try/trust someone new. Today I went to Elli Koopman at Salt-Hair and I could.not.be.more.THRILLED!šŸ„°šŸŽ‰šŸ’•šŸ˜šŸ’šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø I LOVE my hair, even more than I did with my Chicago hair guy. I didn’t think that was possible but Elli’s expertise, advice, insight and recommendations has resulted in my dream hair. šŸ’«āœØ As you can see from pics below, my natural hair color is super dark, my blonde was brassy…plus I like to be really blonde and I have a lot of grays and coarse hair. 😬 I am suuuuppppper picky and Elli and Salt-hair (the chair to wash your hair is like a bed! and you get a scalp massage!) exceeded ALL of my expectations! I love her so much I booked every 6 weeks through Jan šŸ˜‚

Update* The owner Anna reached out to me and asked me come in for a full refund, she was very concerned about the damage and how unhappy I was. She gave me some good hair repair treatment product to take home to help fix the damaged hair. She was very kind and helpful and listened to my concerns. She said the stylist had applied heat which was not supposed to happen so we figured out where the service possibly went wrong. She said it was a teachable moment for stylist Heather. I am happy we were able to come to an agreement and she was attentive to my concerns. She also said she would speak to her master colorist and maybe they can add lowlights and toner to fix the yellow brassiness in about a week. Thanks so much to the owner Anna for the quick response and for paying attention to my hair concerns with compassion and kindness.

I waited five years to get my hair done and was really looking forward to feeling beautiful. The stylist Heather told me she didnt have time to do the look i wanted in the time she had me scheduled, so I started to get up and I told her I would reschedule and she said that wasnt necessary and she could in fact do it. I asked for a balayage with no yellow or grayish blonde colors. I said I wanted my hair darker at the top and blonder at the bottom the stylist did not listen to what I wanted and gave me the exact opposite of what I requested. I ended up with chunky silver gray highlights in the back, yellow highlights around the face and ear area. Some of my bangs and front framing pieces were singed off during the bleaching process leaving me with a 1 in short bang that used to reach to my nose. I understand bleach can cause some damage and this can happen but the stylist didn't say anything to me and tucked it under some other hair so I couldn't see it. I had 2 seconds to look at the final result before she was rushing me out her chair. (I saw the broken bangs in my car after I drove off) I came into the salon with virgin hair that had no previous bleach or color on it. My hair was in great condition the stylist even commented how it was nice to work with virgin hair because she said she never gets a fresh canvas. She left my hair half damp and frizzy after blow drying it and my shirt was wet halfway down my back. With the balyage I wanted the ends lighter and the root area darker. I ended up with blonde roots and dark ends. My hair is 2 different color blondes, silver gray from the ears back and yellow blonde from the ears forward. My hair was all broken off around my face and ears where the different color blonde is. There are spots of blonde in weird places with dark spots that look weird when i put my hair up. Several people have asked me if I did my own cap highlights it looks so bad!! No! i payed $250 for a "professional" service only to have my hair to look terrible and get fried. Then to top off all the embarrasment, as I was checking out and paying, my stylist told a waiting customer "I'm so sorry you had to wait I was trying to hurry" and she said this right in front of me while i was paying so she rushed through my service to get to another client. This is the worst salon experience I have ever had. I would not recommend giving this salon your business. I don't even know how to fix this mess she did to my hair. My hair is destroyed and I wasted my money. I am really sad and embarrased about how my hair looks and feels. I really had high hopes for this salon but left very dissapointed and embarrased about my new hair. Looks like I'll be wearing a hat till my bangs grow back, so i basically paid 250 to have to hide my hair in a hat all summer. I just want my money back because I hate how my...

Really uncomfortable experience. Won’t be back.

I went to Salt Hair in Wake Forest because of the high reviews. Check-in was smooth, but the stylist didn’t greet me—just called my name. No hello, no conversation, no effort to make me feel welcome.

She shampooed my hair and sprayed water on my face maybe she didn’t noticing but she didn’t even apologize after I mentioned it. She said she’d cut my hair dry, which I’ve never had done before. It didn’t make sense for my hair type, but I went with it. Maybe she was new and didn’t know what she was doing.. she did ask 2 questions at an attempt to make short conversation.. which is why I’m giving 2 stars versus 1. I am one who works with various brands on the regular for reviews on Instagram, so, it’s not as though writing reviews is new to me.

During the cut, she said she was removing the cape because it would be ā€œeasierā€ to cut my hair that way, which made no sense. The cape kept falling, and when she tried putting it back on, she made it so tight, it was though she was blatantly choking me. It was extremely uncomfortable and careless.

She was rough when blow-drying and pulled hard the whole time. No small talk, no check-ins—just cold and dismissive. The cut itself wasn’t good. My bangs were crooked and one side of my hair was noticeably longer than the other. While cutting my hair, she kept telling me to turn my head so far right and left and was just very awkward, weird, and overall the most uncomfortable situation ever.

I was also the only Asian woman in the salon. I can’t say for sure if that played a part, but I felt out of place and like I wasn’t welcome. I left feeling upset and emotionally drained. I won’t be going back. And I checked with others on FB in a couple groups and many said the same. I wish I had checked before coming here because I wouldn’t have come. Since I was new to the area (recently moved here 3 months ago and new to the state, I gave it a try also they were very close to our new place). The woman who checked me out in the end also said nothing. Not even how was your service, hope everything went well, very cold.

I try to see the good in everything. But definitely felt very off. Like I was...

I want to express how I feel after a cut and blow dry service at this hair salon. I will not mention the stylist name since she was very friendly and polite. My review is strictly on the techniques used and subsequent results. My intention is not to be disrespectful but to let everyone know of what to expect. If you have thin and very few hair that can be easily air dry, this is the hair salon for you.

However, if you have long thick wavy/straight hair this is not the place. I came here as a treat to myself since I was in need of some pampering for myself. Wanted to refresh my hair and cut half of it and have a smooth and beautiful blow out. There is not a better feeling that coming out of the hair salon with smooth, shiny and bouncy hair.

My hair was ā€œdriedā€ with hands as tools without sectioning my hair and not using the round brush correctly for a better and polished blow dry. At the beginning I thought she is just blow drying like that to facilitate later the use of the brush and to avoid the direct heat while using a brush for a prolonged time. Well no, I was wrong; that was my ā€œblow dryā€! I mentioned her that my hair was still wet inside and asked her if she was going to blow dry it and polished it with a brush. She told me that she used the brush and that her clients love to blow dry her hair that way. However, as a stylist she should know not all hair types are the same and as an expert in that field she should know that was not going to work. I left with a hairstyle that looked worse than letting my hair air dry. It was damped, frizzy and not smooth at all. Very disappointed of the ā€œtechniqueā€ā€™used and that the stylist didn’t hear and minimizes my concerns. Definitely, will never come back and now I will have to blow dry correctly my own hair after wasting my...
