I actually started looking @ The Edge online and was contacted by Omar. I was a little hesitant because initially I always feel intimidated about joining a gym. Instead of reaching out to Omar, I just popped in hoping I would catch him but he was out that day and I was met by Tim (I finally met Omar and he is great too!). I sat down with him we talked about the gym and the membership and he answered all my questions, so I joined that day. He set me up for an assessment and I told him I wasn’t interested in any PT and that I was mostly interested in the classes. My mind was made up and I think I told him they would just be wasting their time with me. He set me up for an appointment and I thought about canceling so I could avoid the sales pitch bc I wasn’t interested. I decided to go and was paired with Nicole Lass. To be honest, I really didn’t want to be there and didn’t realize I was going to go through a workout. I (begrudgingly) worked out with Nicole for about a half hour. While this is an exaggeration, I felt like I was going to die. When we were done Nicole asked if working out with a personal trainer was something I would be interested in. Not sure what I said to her but then she tagged that little Tim back in. While I was was contemplating about walking into the light to end my suffering, Tim talked about the benefits of PT. I asked a lot of questions and told Tim all of my concerns and ultimately signed up for 8 sessions of PT with Nicole.
NIcole is AMAZING. She pushed me harder than I would push myself. She would cheer me on and encourage me. Sometimes she would show me an exercise and I would sometimes think I can’t do that and sometimes I would say it out loud but not wanting to let her down I would try. While there were one or two things I actually couldn’t do, I was often surprised of what I was actually capable of. My knees started bothering me after a couple of sessions and Nicole gave me so many workouts that didn’t hurt my knees. She took into consideration that I wasn’t completely comfortable working out in the main area, so we did a few sessions in the woman’s room. As I got more comfortable we took advantage of both areas. While I had all the workouts we did together, she also gave me other workouts I could do independently. I started seeing results almost immediately which was also incredibly motivating. The PT is extra but if you can find the cash somewhere it is HIGHLY recommended. Ask for Nicole and tell her Tracy sent you!
I have never been a person who likes working out or going to the gym but I love this gym. I joined mid July and for the most part I go 6 days a week. The majority of the staff addresses me by name. Even though my sessions with Nicole have ended, she always says hello and genuinely takes an interest in how I am doing. She is still encouraging me and cheering me on. The classes are great. I love Zumba with Natalie, Jewely and Yanae. Another favorite is Bodypump with Marcia, Bridget and Caroline and I am also enjoying Body Combat with Alicia, Bridget teaches this too. Any issues that I have had, which there have only been two and my own fault, I have always spoken to Mitch and he always fixes things up for me. I also have to give a shout out to Shauna, who always greets me with a smile. I am dating myself for sure, but I feel like Norm from the show Cheers.
If you are looking for a great gym, I highly recommend The Edge...
Read moreGood Afternoon Google Family! Happy Resurrection Sunday and Happy Easter. I joined the Edge on Tuesday, April the 4th. I used to be a Planet Fitness member. I am glad that the Planet Fitness gym goers complained about me being too loud as I was working out. I danced there and I counted sometimes out loud, for example, 5, 6, 7, 8 and they complained about it. So its okay, sometimes God makes it uncomfortable for you so that you will move and move I did. God knew that I wasn't going to leave, unless the situation was uncomfortable for me. Sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone and head for something else. In this case, it worked out well and for my benefit. Also I have been a faithful member of Planet Fitness for ten years. It's time for me to move on. I love the Edge. They have an Edge Cinema, where I can workout on the treadmill, elliptical, Arc Trainer or stationary bike. I can workout while watching the movie. How Awesome is that!! The Edge has a sauna, 7 showers and of course the ladies room, which houses tons of lockers. They also have a Women's Workout center, where only Women can go in and workout. So Awesome!! I love that!! No guys allowed! The classes they have, I have taken, like the Spinning Class, the Forge Class and the Body Combat Class are All Great!! I really enjoyed the classes and I kept up with the youngsters. Not bad for a sixty year old! Every time that I work out at the Edge, I enjoy myself and it is such a Total invigorating, enlightening experience. I look forward to going and I cannot wait til I visit again. I have patronized the Edge in Media, which is my home, where I signed up, The Edge in Wayne and the Edge in Plymouth Meeting. All of them are wonderful but the parking in Plymouth Meeting, they have a parking lot, sometimes you have to wait to get a space, since it is located near the mall and you are competing with other people parking because they are visiting other places in the mall. Have a great evening, Google Family!!!!They must have fixed the hot water 💦 in the shower, because it is delightfully hot, not cold like it used to be. Thank you...
Read moreWow. So many 1 star reviews.
I don't know if people are trying to cancel their membership during the middle of their contract, but I'm hoping that Edge doesn't make it difficult for those at the end of their contract.
Overall, for the price you are paying, the facilities are great.
Overall, for the price you are paying, the # of squat racks, deadlift platforms, cardio equipment, and benches are great.
That said, I started here the first day it opened, and let's say, their original staff was WAAAAAAAAAAAY friendlier and professional than the rotation of staff they've had the last 1 and a half years. They literally lost all their best trainers, and front desk workers, except for 1 last remaining front desk person from the original crew.
The majority, not all, but the majority of the current staff are very unfriendly as many reviewers have stated and have 0 customer service skills.
Sauna, when it's working is a nice way to end your workout.
If you have the highest membership, you can also bring a friend for free, as well as take all the classes and enjoy two different types of massage equipment.
The employees that run the classes, like Spin, and Body Pump are the only employees who are consistently friendly.
They definitely need more dumbbells though and there is always a machine that is out of service.
The water fountain was recently out for over a month but it's finally fixed. Imagine a gym with no water fountain. They should build another near the free weight area so at least one is always working.
As people said, the music is very iffy. And sometimes, there is no music at all.
Don't come after 5pm, because it looks like an audition for high school musical. Overall, for the price, and depending on your schedule, it can be a great gym, or a headache.
But let's be honest, if you have a $9.99 membership, you're not going to find a better option than Edge...
