After reading a small article about Tillson in a local newspaper we took a 45 minute drive to see it. We visited after dark and it was very busy with pedestrian traffic. Navigating Tillson was "shoulder to shoulder" and "stop and go" on the narrow sidewalks with many people stopping to gaze at the "good" houses and/or taking photos or selfies.
Less than a dozen homes were decorated to the hilt. Those homeowners obviously spent a lot of time and effort to present some great eye candy. Most others just displayed a yard full of the same overpriced goods you see at Home Depot and Lowes or a yard full of grave markers with "Here lies" so and so. Some homes had no decorations at all and many of those had temporary fencing erected around their property so you can't step on their lawns.
Most streets in the neighborhood have "No Parking" on one side, while on the other side parking is allowed, but scarce on busy nights. Be prepared to walk a few blocks if you want to park for free. On the main road that Tillson is off of, aptly named Main Street, is a Dairy Queen which was still open at 9:30 pm. Every business along Main Street was selling parking spots for $5.00. Shame on those businesses for trying to profit off homeowners' work!
As for being a Halloween attraction, I've seen better decorated streets that don't get publicly hyped. That being said, if you have a night with nothing to do, it may be worth your while to see it for yourself once.
My rating was calculated like this: 5 stars for a few homes, 4 stars for a few more, 2 stars for most, and 0 stars...
Read moreMe and my family discovered Tillson street through the local town's facebook postings a few years back. Its really fun to visit throughout the month of October and see how decorations on the street progress throughout the month. The residents on the street put on a wonderful show, different houses have different themes seemingly every year.
I can't help but admire their tenacity and hard work taken to decorate their front yards and houses every single year for Halloween.
Okay folks, while I have your attention, I'm going to share a secret with you: If you entered Tillson Street from Van Dyke (Dairy Queen entrance), At the end of Tillson Street is Sisson st. Take a left, and take Sisson St. All the way down to 31mile road. Turn right, and 31 mile road turns into a gravel road. Not too far after the gravel road is Harvest Ridge. If you drive to the end of the street, the houses end at a small hill top overlooking the trees/orchards in the area. The view from here is...
Read moreThis is a must see for Halloween, almost every house goes all out with the decorations, wizard of oz, evil clowns, midevil castle, even a working electric chair. If you go, go closer to Halloween so you can see it all set up. They close off the street the night of for the safety of the thousands of kids they get, so go a few days before and enjoy the fun.one real nice thing is that they sell cider and doughnuts and even teeshirts. Trust me you will find it easily, there's a dairy queen right...
