Let me start off by saying this was my hands down favorite sushi place. I have been going there for years…. Since they first opened. It’s always excellent food and the service is always good. Unfortunately something has changed and it’s a policy I cannot agree with. We went there yesterday and as we were walking in, there’s a small hand written sign on the door that says, there will be a 10% tip added onto every bill. Now shame on me, although I did see the sign, my brain didn’t read the entire thing because I thought it was saying that the 10% tip would be added onto all “take out” orders. Which I would actually have no issues with since there are some people who don’t tip for take out. So after we ate, and I will say the sushi was as good as it always has been, I received the bill. For the two of us it was around $60.00, we did have a couple cocktails. I was very unhappy to see that a 10% tip was automatically added onto my bill. I am a person who ALWAYS tips well… never less than 20% (unless the service is awful) but more like 25-30%. I truly believe that being a server is a difficult job and I’m happy to pay for good service. Something about being forced to pay for something that is absolutely optional is very wrong in my book. If a server do the absolute minimum, I still would tip them 20%. I don’t know what has happened at Yorokobi to make them start this policy but I can tell you that I won’t be back until they end it, which is very unfortunate. There was also the fact that when I got the bill, at the bottom was the info that some places add to let you know what the percentages would be, I guess for people who can’t do math. But they based it on the total, after they already added the 10% tip. That’s a little dishonest and sneaky in my book. I truly hope the owner see this. You have a great place, you serve great food. If your servers are unhappy with their tips, get better servers or get them some training. Let people tip the amount...
Read moreAs other reviews suggest there is definitely a staffing issue here as service is a little slow. There was one waitress (Kat) that was literally running around the place taking care of everyone, she was working at 110% and sweet as pie. There was also an Asian Chef that was making rolls as fast as he could yet things just went slow. There was another White Chef that would sort of come and go too. I really just think it's understaffed when they are busy. No one seemed to be lazy, they seemed to be working as fast as 3 people could. That all being said.... the place was very nice, clean, comfortable atmosphere and was certainly well worth the wait. We got the Yum Yum, Snow, Jalapeno Popper, and Sweetie Rolls. They were all fantastic... however the Yum Yum Roll is CRAZY delicious. Every Sushi joint has a Yum Yum Roll..... Yorokobi's Yum Yum is the one to beat. The Snow Roll was surprisingly my second favorite and one of the few rolls I didn't use soy sauce with, it was that good, so many great flavors in it. The Jalapeno and Sweetie Rolls actually complimented each other as the Jalapeno was pretty dang spicy (coming from someone that loves spicy food) and the Sweetie Roll was sort of a refreshing in a way. Only been there once, but plan on coming back soon. Can't wait to try some of the other rolls, if they are anything like the ones I already ate, this will quickly become my...
Read moreThe jalapeño fried rice is one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. The added gratuity tip for carry out… that was surprising. The portions could be a tad bit more generous. the atmosphere is nice and the food is really good. I highly recommend it. Edited :ONE MORE THING, I didn’t include in my initial review and should have, as people should be Aware , the added gratuity is intentionally being flown under the radar … there is a tiny hand written sign on the front door (that another merchants previously shared) AND when I picked up my carryout, the cashier printed out two receipts.. neither were itemized, just a TOTAL, I thought was strange for a restaurant? especially since I was sharing the bill with a coworker.. I asked the cashier why they didn’t print out at least one itemized receipt… she said “we only do if you ask”…. Mmmm .. transparency is important. Keep your Service, food and value right & I’m sure customers would be happy to pay the additional “fees” ps I truly hope that gratuity goes to the waiters...
