I think there's a part of me that is still sweating from last night's workout (at the very minimum, my muscles are sore)! ((305)) Fitness finally landed in DC yesterday, bringing a DJ-fueled dance cardio fitness regime that pretty much kicked everyone's butt. Founder Sadie Kurzban was there, along with a few other instructors and a fun DJ, to get our dance on.
The workout combines high intensity interval training with sports drills and hip hop dance moves to create this ultra hip, au courant, oh-my-god-can-I-do-this session. Sadie was very energetic and clearly shows a love and passion for the cardio workout. The other instructors did not disappoint either. It's essentially like clubbing with a live DJ and fused with a full-body workout.
It strongly reminds me of another dance cardio workout I do in Springfield, VA, called Kazaxe, which also combines dance moves with cardio and strength training. I think Kazaxe has more hip-hop/reggae/salsa dance moves incorporated than the high-intense training that ((305)) does, but it's very similar in that it's a fun dance workout, makes me sweat like no other workout, and has a lot of enthusiastic shouting from both instructors and students (or junkies, as ((305)) calls their clients). Sadie also gave some valuable life lessons/tips yesterday that related to both our workout and everyday life while we were painfully stretching out muscles of which I didn't know I had.
If you're looking for a different workout, definitely stop by and try ((305)) Fitness. It's the perfect workout for us Type A Washingtonians. Their outpost is at BodySmith Gym + Studio in Logan Circle. I think the closest Metro stop is U Street and then just a quick 9 minute walk down 14th Street.
They have a free launch week from July 10-16. Come, bring a friend, and shake yo booty! After their launch week, they're going to have some neat perks like if you bring three friends, your next class is free, or...
Read moreEDIT: I posted this original review probably a year ago and I just wanted to reiterate that I stand by every single thing I wrote. 305 is welcoming in every way possible. The front desk staff is always happy and friendly and excited to be there (this is very much not the case at other places I have worked out). While my rhythm is still questionable, I do feel as though I've gotten better at the actual moves and process of the class. I have also found that the other people in the class seem genuinely excited to have newbies and everyone is there for themselves but feed off the energy from the instructor, the DJ, and the other people in the class. My friend and I choose 305 when we're feeling down, stressed, or need a pick-me-up.
305 is honestly the most fun I've ever had while working out. I have absolutely zero rhythm, but the instructors/front desk/fellow dancers in class show no judgment or even frustration. I will say it took a few classes to finally catch on, but now I feel like a pro. Time will tell if those dance moves transfer to the outside world, but for now, if I'm feeling stressed or down or anything, 305 is my go-to place to dance it all out. HIGHLY recommend.
As a side note - it is definitely a work out! You'll be sweating in the first few minutes. I try to adjust my schedule so I can take class with Byron. He has an unreal energy/charisma/intensity/ease to instruction that makes me keep...
Read moreWhy does Google only have 5 stars?! 305 has changed my life. Why? Because I NEVER thought working out could be fun. I never thought I'd enjoy working out. And each time I have 305 on my calendar it's a GOOD DAY! I get to look forward to it all day and I'm always happy to go and feel incredible when I leave!
I've always been very intimidated by gyms and classes. I've done a few in the DC area (and in general) where I left feeling like I wasn't good enough to go back. That is FAR from the case with 305! Sadie has hand picked and screened all her instructors and let me tell ya, she's found the best of the best! All the instructors are incredible at not only giving you a killer workout, but at making you feel like a bad ass while you do it (even if you don't have an ounce of natural dancing ability in your body like me!!!).
And then there's the 305 community, which again, is unlike anything I've found at any other gym or class. This community is welcoming and empowering. They meet you wherever you are and at any fitness level and make you feel completely welcome! That's rare and it's one of the biggest things that's kept me going back to 305 for...
