tldr: science store seems to be anti local scientists!
The store currently has gravestones in the window saying RIP CDC, RIP FDA, etc. I went in the store and explained, as a CDC employee who lives in the neighborhood it's really upsetting to walk past a CDC gravestone while my coworkers in atlanta are still having to work without pay next to bullet holes from the attempted mass shooting in August.
The gravestones devalue the work of all federal scientists who are trying to hold the line and continue our life saving work in these difficult times. Not to mention there isn't even a gravestone for USAID, a scientific agency that was actually eliminated and should be remembered and mourned!
They refused to take it down, and seemed to think I was rude when I explained how upsetting their display is. I hate to leave a negative review, but I'm guessing that's the only way to get them to listen. I've intentionally shopped at this store in the past because I love having quirky little shops in the neighborhood, but this incident will change whether I would ever bring my kids here
Edit: I read the response and it is remarkably obtuse. I will be avoiding this store going forward and encouraging my neighbors to do the same. Until they take this display down, I am avoiding passing the storefront to avoid aggravating my PTSD. I hope everyone who works there is ashamed of themselves and does some retrospection on hubris vs support and how not to make scientists the butt...
Read moreThis is a really cute little gift store. I bought some dinosaur Christmas socks these guys at the German Christmas Market over by China Town last year and decided to check out their permanent store while I was out and about. This place is really cool and has a PLETHORA of science themed Gifts from multiple different scientific disciplines. They have everything from Chemistry Cookie Cutters to little stone figures to PCB Art to dinosaur toys and everything in between. I particularly liked their wide selection of witty pins. Also the folks working there are very smart, friendly and helpful. The whole place has this geeky yet tongue in Cheek (something you might find in the biology section) vibe with fun merch and geek specific music playing as BGM. When I came in I was caught off guard by the sounds of a big band cover of “Want You Gone” by Jonathan Coulton from the video game Portal 2. If you are a science geek to any degree, or know someone who is, even if it’s something specific like biology, chemistry, Dinosaurs, sharks, computers or Psychology, they will probably have something here you might enjoy. I Totally recommend checking...
Read moreThe store is wonderful, offering a great assortment of science-themed gifts for all ages and interests. What truly sets it apart is its craft lab. I’ve attended craft lab events: kids’ activities and festivals with my 4-year-old son, and we’ve enjoyed them very much. The staff is fantastic — friendly, engaging, and great with children. It’s a perfect place for families who love engineering and science, with an atmosphere full of creativity and curiosity. A true gem in the...
