Broad Branch Market — Local services in Washington

Broadbranch Market is a handy, if pricey, little market buried deep in the "Chevy Chase DC" neighborhood. Given that the local Safeway is something of a train wreck, Broadbranch helps to fill in some of the gaps. They carry most of the basics you'd expect in a neighborhood bodega and their pre-meeting/carry out food is pretty good. One of my gripes is that the soda cooler never seems to get soda's that cold, but they do have a soda fountain. Also, this is one of the few places in DC that I know of that has Slush Puppie's.

The staff are, generally, pleasant and attentive though some of the neighborhood kids that work there could be a bit more focused. Some of the clientele however can be maddeningly self-important, but that's Upper Northwest in general. If you drive parking could be problematic but that's to...

This local market is my go-to for staples such as milk, bread, salad fixings, cheese, & good quality meats & fish. Great soups! Prepared cold deli veggie salads such as edamame and broccoli rabe are terrific. I don't often buy prepared warm food but there are some very good options including ribs, stews, and even pizza. Great for taking a good side dish to a pot luck meal. Delicious fresh pastry selection in the morning (available all day). Ice cream, some bulk grains & nuts, coffees (some that can be ground there), and household products as well. A very nice wine and beer display. They do catering so that's handy. Convenient hours. I love this place because it's your typical neighborhood grocery store that not only offers your essentials, but you can come get your beer, baked goods, coffee, cheese, wine and much more.

What I do love is the prepared food! It's great quality prepped food and sandwiches that would give Whole Foods a run for its money!

BBM is also very incorporated in the neighborhood, making it an icon. The staff are friendly and seem to give local teenagers a chance to make a paycheck and build a great work ethic.
