My wife and I came in to exchange a D.C. themed item for store credit, as my wife didn’t like how it looked in our kitchen upon arriving home. This was accomplished per their return policy without any issue, so no complaints regarding the mechanics of the process. But, if I’m being honest, I did take some offense at the owners statements regarding some replacement options my wife was considering.
For example, we were informed that some of the D.C. themed items were for tourists and some were for “neighbors.” So, we needed to decide which we were. In this vein, the owner pointed out a towel, which my wife commented was pretty, and said that towel wasn’t for “neighbors,” as it displayed cherry blossoms instead of the D.C. flag or something about various neighborhoods. When my wife pushed back, claiming it might look good in pictures (as we will photograph our house soon), she replied that it wouldn’t turn out very well in photos at all. At the end of the transaction, she also noted that I wasn’t being supportive of my wife in the store because I didn’t care which replacement item she selected, which my wife found very offensive (for good reason, I think, since I did actually care and we discussed a number of replacements, I just didn’t like what was on offer in her store).
Now, honestly, I’m sure this is one of those “she meant well” situations, but we both left the store thinking we probably weren’t her...
Read moreService is excellent. Leah is the most helpful and genuinely nice person in DC. We registered with HK for our wedding and could not be happier with our choice. All our guests commented on how helpful the HK staff were and how easy the experience was. People want to buy you long lasting things for your wedding that you will use and think of them, and HK doesn’t stock things that are cheap or poorly made. So your guests will be happy with the selection of products in HK and happier still about the prices. Leah took an entire morning to walk us around the store to pick out things we need. No upselling, no pressure, just questions and answers. She, and all her staff, know their way around the kitchen so they know what to recommend and they know what quality products to stock. They also have lots of experience with wedding registries so they can help you determine how much to register for. We also registered with a big box store (even an upscale one) and we regret it. Very hard to work with, delivery errors, too expensive, and too impersonal. The people at Hill’s Kitchen made our wedding experience memorable, fun, and...
Read moreMy wife and I registered for our wedding at Hill's Kitchen in summer 2016, and Leah the owner was wonderful to work with. She helped us pick out the right items for our tastes and lifestyle, was incredibly friendly and patient, and never pressured us to add expensive or extra items. She held all the items people purchased until we were ready to pick them up after the wedding, and months later when we were finishing our thank-you cards, she was super patient, friendly, and wonderful about helping us reconstruct our lost list of who got us what.
Both my wife and I have shopped at Hill's Kitchen prior to the wedding as well, and we are fans of Leah and the store in general. Great selection, great staff, and an important local presence in a wonderful neighborhood. Leah knows her neighborhood and her customers, having lived in the area for so long - and if she doesn't know you, she's eager to say hello. As all long time Hill residents know, she and her store are a true...
