This evening we watched the Kennedy String Quartet play Candlelight Concert: A Tribute to Hans Zimmer at the Miracle Theater.
For those unfamiliar with the area, parking may be anxiety producing but if you continue past the theater about 3 blocks there is plenty of paid public parking under the highway overpass. We were lucky and secured street parking for $4.80 from 5:30 pm to 7:50 pm.
The staff were exceptional. We were greeted by a tall, slim, dark-haired gentleman outside the theater who immediately made us feel welcome. Then, two young ladies scanned our tickets inside and directed us to the concession area and which zone our seats were located. All interactions with Miracle Theater staff were very nice.
Now, this is an older theater so the seats are not comfy/cushy plush movie theater seats, but for an hour long musical experience they were fine. I noticed people squirming and shifting in their seats with about 10 minutes left in the program, and I could feel my back discomfort so I'd say if you're planning to see a show that's over an hour bring a jacket or cushion for your comfort.
The theater is intimate, clean and staffed with friendly people. We will definitely return for...

Everyone arrived for "Sing 2"and we were informed that, without any notice, they changed the movie to "Encanto", a movie that has been out for 3 months. All the kids attending the party have seen Encanto multiple times. We had confirmed "Sing 2" 4 days prior. After acknowledging the change of movie they said that they couldn't change the movie back to the one we booked under because it had been advertised as Encanto despite the fact that we had purchased 14 tickets with our birthday party and they only had 8 tickets from the general public. So not only was this the wrong thing to do but it didn’t make economic sense.
Our daughter has seen Encanto no less than 5 times as have all of the party participants so we had to leave and go to a park instead. It has to be one of the most unprofessional and inexplicable experience I've ever had with a birthday venue. Sure, they reimbursed the tickets but they completely ruined an 11 year old's birthday party through utter incompetence and inflexibility. She just remarked that this was her worst birthday...
Read moreSaw David Wilcox here a while back -- my first visit to the Miracle Theatre. I loved the venue--but then, I'm a lover of all things vintage and restored, saved, etc. This is definitely an old-school theater--the vibe reminds me of the Greenbelt Theatre in Old Greenbelt. But Greenbelt was completely renovated, while this theatre seems to be cleaned up, and mostly original. Someone else mentioned that the seats aren't the most comfortable. Yeah, they're not the recliners we're all getting spoiled by in today's theatres, but hell--most Americans have enough padding back there (yours truly included) to make it bearable. If you're short, you might want to get there early to make sure get a seat up front and don't sit behind some giant or giantess. But what a cool, intimate, wonderful place to see live music! I'm hoping they'll bring more singer-songwriters, Americana, blues, jazz (please, jazz?) there in the future. Don't know if I'd go out there for a movie (Capitol Hill is a haul from Laurel), but I'll definitely be back for more live music. P.S. Don't know what the original name of the theater was, but I just love "Miracle Theatre." Makes me think of a Frank...
