Unfortunately this shop didn't work out for me. I believe I was in there about 10 years ago or so. I held off writing a review because at the time I didn't have much experience with custom fitting. Since then i have gotten 3 pairs of custom boots. PJ seemed extremely competent. He looked at my feet and we talked about how and where on the mountain i like to ski. He pulled down a pair of Nordica Dobermans and told me these are the boots he was putting me in. We did foot beds and ground the bottom of the boots so the skis would run flat. I skied the boots a few times with pain and discomfort which I believe can be part of the process in custom fitting. Before we started to grind and punch i wanted to make sure the liner packed out a little and my feet adjusted a little. My problems with the shop began when i needed to get into the shop to continue the process of fitting. I had a very hard time scheduling another appointment to continue the process. At the time of the initial visit PJ was very busy with several customers at once. For such custom work I was surprised that he was the only one doing boot fitting on so many customers. I can't comment on the finished product this shop produces because I ended up getting so frustrated that I gave up on them. Since then, I have learned a lot about buying custom fitted boots, getting work done on the mountain at Snowbird and Jackson Hole. The experience I had at Race Stock is definitely not typical. The experience here was great! I have always had bootfitting issues because they were no real bootfitters in the area I live and I have foot issues. I drove to Vermont and went to a well reviewed bootfitter and was given a pair of boots that ended up not close to correct for my foot and leg shape. I was having fit and pain issues. I found out about Race Stock made the drive and PJ helped me out tremendously. Even told me what issues I was having with my skiing just by examining my feet and leg shape and the boots I had. They didn't mention getting new boots, he offered to fix the issue with my current boots so I could get out and go skiing. I opted for new boots. PJ knew exactly what boots I should have just by checking out my feet and skiing style. That's the difference between Race Stock and so many other shops. They really check you out and know what you need instead of just trying on multiple boots. They take the time to make sure you are set up correctly before you leave and make alterations if needed. Couldn't be happier! I can ski aggressively all day in warmth and comfort! Gone are the days of the wrong boots, pain, and unbuckling after a run or two. They also have a great selection of what I would call purposeful skis. Whether it's racing, skinning, all mountain skiing they have what you need and should have. This is from a guy who had hardly skied the past two seasons. I was ready to give up the sport due to sore feet in ski boots. I was referred to Race Werks from a friend. Some would call this shop a hole in the wall. I would call it a diamond in the rough. It’s a true ski shop!! I’d like to thank Ryan for his exceptional knowledge & service. I drove 2.5 hours to see these guys for custom fitted boots. Ryan sized me up and had me in custom insole boots in no time. Explaining the process and educating me the whole way through. In talking about the most recent technology, we got talking about skis. With Ryan’s knowledge and zero pressure he had me convinced that if I were truly going to enjoy skiing again, these were the different skis for my style and the typical terrain I ski. Again, no pressure at all, just knowledge and educating me on the different skis. We picked out the skis and a binding that suited me well. Within about 2 hours I walked out with a full set up and custom fitted boots. Hats off to Ryan and PJ for their expertise and laid back personality. You’ve earned a customer for life, and I will be spreading the word. This is from a guy who was ready to give up the sport due to not finding boots that didn’t hurt his feet. Thank you Race Werks!!
