China Star — Restaurant in Waterbury

The service itself was fine and the restaurant itself is par for the course far as take out is concerned; clean, presentable, and a few tables for dine-in. The food wasn't that great. Granted you don't go to take out for a 5-star meal, but food in general needs to at least have some flavor.

Bland and greasy is the best description I can give. We ordered the house fried rice, a sweet & sour pork and veggie dish, and a couple of soups. The fried rice tasted like vegetable oil and rice. The pork with veggies was thick and heavy with cornstarch and sauce, yet, there was no flavor of sauce found, sweet, sour, or otherwise. Just grease and pork. The soup was no different. We ordered seafood soup and a hot and sour. Suffice to say they both tasted like hot water and vinegar, respectively.

Overall, it's fine if you're looking for a meal and don't have taste buds, but otherwise I don't recommend this restaurant unless it's your absolute...

I have to be honest that we did not intend to eat from this restaurant last night at all. We were in a hurry and passing through Waterbury on our way somewhere else. Started calling a different place and ended up calling this one to order ahead. We were told our food will be ready in 10 minutes, and it was exactly that. I ordered the Boneless Rib combo. I live about 40 minutes from the restaurant so I could not go back. The combo includes an egg roll, pork fried rice and boneless ribs. The egg roll was fine, but the oil used for the fried rice was rancid. Which transferred the off flavor to the ribs. This made the meal inedible. I called China Star to let them know and they said thank you and that was it. No apology, offer to correct on a future visit, nothing.
