They are knowledgeable to a degree, but unapologetically arrogant.
A while ago a few close friends and myself were heading to the range and wanted to pick up some extra ammo and clays before we headed out to Lapeer. There were 3 of us total, all wearing jackets, I wore a scarf as well, IT was a little over 30 degrees outside so it was understandable. We looked no different from anyone else that day. We walk in all talking among each other and we are interrupted by the counter clerk accusing us of looking like we were going to rob the place...We all looked puzzled. Another man came from the back room saying that he went back there to go grab a rifle because he thought the same. I could understand if we were wearing masks or werent all laughing and talking among each other calmly, but their was response was completely uncalled for, as if they were disappointing they weren't going to get the chance to shoot us or whatever...we are pretty tolerant, so we brushed it off because we are obviously harmless.
I broke the awkward silence in the air and let them know were heading out to the range and if they had the common ammo we were looking for. I got a snarky response with a price. The price was way over what the ammo costs normally so I politely declined. He looked unhappy, but understandable.
Meanwhile, my friend "B", as we will call him for anonymity sake, was looking at a Lee-Enfield rifle. He began asking about it, and received a very condescending "Well are you going to buy it?!"
My friend taken back by the unnecessary statement, a little irritated at this point for being treated so poorly from the get-go replied, "You know, I was actually, but I think I'm good! Have a nice day." He muttered sarcastically. We left.
I know my friend B well, he isn't afraid to drop some big money if he really likes something. So, not only did they lose out on the sale of the antique bolt gun, but as well as as many rounds as they had for it for a day at Lapeer pit for that rifle alone. IF there prices were reasonable, then they would've also gotten a fair amount of purchases from the three of us. We all said we would never return and we tell everyone to not go there, but instead go to "X" or "X", just don't go there.
This doesn't end here though. I just called recently to inquire about some range ammo, hoping that we just caught them on an off day and maybe we would get some decent service this time around...Unfortunately, my experience over the phone was unsavory. Incoherent, rude, and no courtesy of a proper "hello" or "good bye". I'm not asking much, but on top of the rudeness (which I could typically deal with) it adds insult to injury that I could buy literally, yes literally, twice as much pistol ammo for the price they quoted me. Talk about money gauging.
So i gave them their chance, but our ammo will never be purchased from them again, which is unfortunate, because we are frequent range goers who always buy enough ammo to make a day of it between a dozen rifles...
Read moreFirst, if you're going to buy online, Whites is the best Gun Shop to use as your Receiving FFL Dealer. I've checked all around Oakland County & Whites has the best price. This I know.
When it comes to making a firearms purchase, having your firearm inspected, or for any advice, these guys are the best. I just purchased a Rifle & a couple of Scopes. The Rifle, even though it was used, looks like 99.5% new. A well taken care of Rifle & I'm glad I was able to get what I was looking for. As for the 2 Scopes, the Bushnell 10x40 is right on. It is in really good shape. The Leupold 3.5-10x40 is really nice. All though I'm having it mounted on one of my Rifles, it may end up on one of my AR-15's because it's probably what is should go on. If I question it, I know what ever they tell me, I'd be able to take that to the bank.
I've purchased a couple scopes on eBay & 1: I didn't like the fact that they came from China & 2: these people on eBay are passing off Air Gun Scopes as True Rifle Scopes. I just sent 2 back because after further research, I found out that they were in fact for Air Guns & worth about $25.00. As for Scopes, Whites has a nice selection of New & Used Scopes. If need be, you can order what you want & get it shipped faster than any online retailer & for a good price as well. Since I carry a CCW permit, I looked at a few in my price range that are nice. I just hope that when I'm ready to buy, some are still in stock.
Knowledgeable people. When ever I need advice or question something I'm planning to buy, I know that what I'm told is also something I can take to the bank. You don't have to wait for your salesmen to go on the intercom to call for a salesmen who's the smartest guy in the store like every big box store I've been to has. I mean, damn, what would happen if that one guy isn't there? At Whites, they know what they're talking about & there's no waiting for the smartest guy in the shop. Like I just said, they know what they're talking about & can answer any question you have.
Last, I'll be in the market for an AR-15. When I'm ready, I'll be buying from them. After seeing a brand name sold right before my eyes for less than I could buy one for online, it's a no...
Read moreI agree with what Scott Allen wrote, but I have had more than my fill of the brick and mortar scene. Don't have time for "out of stock', I can order you one, but really don't want to. Until the internet is fully taken over and no longer useable, I'll be making ALL my gun accessory purchases online. My business just don't seem to be appreciated out there anymore in the stores and shops unless it's a major one! I simply don't have the time to be standing around. And lastly, this goes for almost all the gun shops around here, "The customer will almost always be never right!" You would think, when you go to a gun shop looking for something, you hope that you can tap into their vast experience and expertise. Big error in judgement on my part. WARNING, you will most likely experience a response at some time that will make you feel like the stupidest person that ever appeared in their presence! Sounds harsh, but it's true. My guess is maybe it's partly from the years of over regulations they've had to endure that has turned them into rude and unfriendly people at times. I tried to do my part by making purchases when I could out in the marketplace to help sustain businesses. My conclusions have almost always turned out to be wrong. I like going in and purchasing something that I can feel good about when I leave, without feeling humiliated about how much I didn't know about something when I went in. That's just my own observations and the harsh reality of it. Be forewarned. I'm a veteran with some firearm knowledge and experience, but it has happened. Remember, this is just a generalization of my experiences in gun stores in S.E. Michigan so go and judge...
