Fareway Meat and Grocery — Local services in Waukee

Good location, large parking spaces, fair prices, great employees, good selection... a little amount of a lot of varying products. Meat counter is good quality but high priced. Still, meat in general is high anywhere, so it's good to shop around, although it's FAR superior in quality to Hy-Vee. Their rotisserie chickens taste better than other stores but are the same price & much smaller, seemingly half the size of Hy-Vee. Sometimes they're dry, but they do taste better. If you visit after 5pm, they are a couple of dollars cheaper, if there are any left. They don't usually have a lot any time of the day I've ever visited, so sometimes I have to go across the street to Hy-Vee anyway. Produce is always good quality. it was very disappointing to shop there. I felt very on edge and the clear distinctive treatment of me versus the white counter parts to the other customers was very obvious. The other customers went at self check out weren’t observed as much and we’re more so helped and they didn’t look at them, but a good three people had their eyes on me and even while I was going into the aisles, they were watching me and it was very offputting because I’m not one to buy into the racial narrative, but it was very offputting and I only would go there on my break because it was closed, but it was very disappointing and felt very degrading and like a betrayal to myself to even shop there because I would feel like I lost so much dignity due to how they would treat me like I...

An older disabled woman was asking about something down the freezer aisle and instead of helping her and walking down the aisle to help her find this item the employee just pointed down the aisle and said it’s down there somewhere…

While bagging my groceries at self checkout there wasn’t anymore bags, the employee looked at me, and watched me pick up my items and leave the store and never offered to get me a bag.

Lastly, there was a female customer who approached the checkout counter to get her items checked out. No one ever helped check her out or even bothered to go to the counter so she left.
